Lazio v Juventus Predictions and Preview

Inter may be top of the pile but it is Lazio who are on the best run in the country. Eagles manager Inzaghi came under severe criticism from President Claudio Lotito earlier in the term after just two victories from seven matches after the opening day triumph against Sampdoria and there were strong rumours the Italian was on the verge of being dismissed.

Simone, the younger brother of Pippo, has since turned things round in sensational fashion and Lazio are firmly in the mix for a European berth.

The Biancocelesti have netted a whopping 33 efforts from 14 matches, one goal less than division top scorers Atalanta, and it is easy to see why Lazio are so prolific.

While Inzaghi may line up with a 3-5-2 formation, Luis Alberto, who operated upfront last term, is playing in the midfield alongside Sergej Milinković-Savić, another player who likes to play further forward.

The tactician has a wealth of options at his disposal with Ciro Immobile in the form of his life. The hotshot has 17 strikes to his name, seven more than closest rival Romelu Lukaku and is well on course to breaking the 40-goal barrier in all competitions.

Immobile is 4/1 to open proceedings while Lazio are 9/2 to emerge triumphant. The draw is 10/3. Champions Juventus were held to a shock 2-2 draw with Sassuolo last weekend. The Bianconeri were off-par and made uncharacteristic individual and collective errors and Sarri may freshen things up.

Federico Bernardeschi has failed in his audition as playmaker in the side and his place could come under threat from Aaron Ramsey and Paulo Dybala. Juventus are 7/5 to claim a much-needed victory.

One to watch for Lazio: Luis Alberto has 11 goal contributions from 14 domestic appearances and is one of  Inzaghi’s most influential performers. The Spaniard is quite rightly back in contention with his national team and is 11/4 to net anytime.

One to watch for Juventus: Gonzalo Higuain will get the nod over compatriot Dybala as an orthodox forward and foil for Ronaldo. The ex-Napoli and Real Madrid attacker has already come up with some big goals this campaign and is 11/2 to register last.

Long shot: We are fast approaching the halfway point of the 2019-20 Serie A season and Juventus have yet to hit top gear. Sarri was brought in to implement the football his Napoli side played, but the Bianconeri continue to struggled with the veteran’s methods. With Inter chalking up win after win, the champions need to dig deep and show their class and mettle. A 3-1 triumph is 20/1.
