Lazio v Juventus Predictions and Preview
This is a monster game for Juventus, who can ill afford another slip as their poor start to the season continues to blight their hopes of recovery. It’s a massive occasion for Lazio too, with former Old Lady coach Maurizio Sarri hoping to get one over his old team.
Sarri won the Scudetto with Juve in 2020, before the Bianconeri’s world caved in last term under the inexperienced Andrea Pirlo. The returning Max Allegri has all the experience you could ask for, but the Old Lady continue to toil despite looking like they’d turned a corner.
On the back of a draw against fast-starting Milan, Juventus then went on an impressive four-match winning run, which culminated in a 1-0 victory over Jose Mourinho’s Roma. However, all four of those wins were by a single goal, with Juve’s fragility exposed in their next three matches.
A respectable 1-1 draw away to champions Inter was followed by a pair of disappointing 2-1 defeats at home to Sassuolo and away to Verona, undoing all of the good work the Old Lady had put in. Juve did recover to beat Fiorentina 1-0 in their last match before the break though.
This is a tough return to action though, with Lazio looking like they’re further adapting to Sarri’s methods and capable of mounting a challenge for the top four. Victory in this Lazio v Juventus preview would provide a significant boost for Le Aquile as we head towards the end of the calendar year.
The Roman club have only lost one of their last five Serie A fixtures, although it was a bad one in going down 4-1 at Verona. However, Lazio are unbeaten in their last 19 home games, stretching back to last season. The Biancocelesti have won 17 of those, scoring 16 goals in winning five of their six home games this season against Spezia, Roma, Inter, Fiorentina and Salernitana.
As such, the home team could prove excellent value as the 2/1 underdogs in this game. Juventus are slight favourites at 7/5 but are struggling badly for form and consistency, with the draw potentially worth a look at 35/13.
One to watch for Lazio: With top scorer Ciro Immobile out injured, there’s more of a burden on veteran Pedro to come up with the goals this weekend. The Spanish forward has four goals in 12 games so far in his debut season for the Biancocelesti, and is 11/1 to open the scoring in these Lazio v Juventus predictions.
One to watch for Juventus: Alvaro Morata bagged a brace the last time these teams met. The Spanish international has only managed two goals in 11 Serie A appearances this term, but netted a crucial goal to take his country to the 2022 World Cup at the weekend and is 11/2 to break the deadlock here.
Long shot: Each of Lazio’s last two victories over Juventus finished 3-1 to the capital club, with one coming at home and the other away. Sarri’s side are 24/1 to win by the same scoreline in these Lazio v Juventus tips, rising to 275/1 if you add Pedro as the opening goalscorer.
