Lazio v Roma Predictions and Preview
2018-19 Coppa Italia winners Lazio demonstrated their credentials for the new term with a comprehensive victory in Liguria. On home soil, Sampdoria have defeated Juventus, Inter, Milan and Roma in recent years and the Biancocelesti were hugely impressive.
Pleasingly for Inzaghi was the form of Immobile. By his extremely high standards, the striker’s league haul of 15 last year, in comparison to 29 the 2017-18, was below par. Immobile is the chief source of goals for Lazio and is the 7/2 favourite to open proceedings when the European hopefuls go to battle.
Sergej Milinković-Savić will also have a key role to play. The young Serbian was strongly tipped to join Manchester United in the summer as a direct replacement for Paul Pogba, but both midfielders have remained at their respective clubs.
However, Milinković-Savić is likely to be the subject of further interest in 12 months time if he can hit double figures this season and he is 7/1 to net first. The Biancocelesti are 11/10 to claim bragging rights and all three points, while the draw is 13/5.
Across the city, Roma began the new term without talismanic skipper Daniele De Rossi. Alessandro Florenzi assumed captain responsibilities but it was Edin Dzeko who led the way and made his mark against Genoa.
The Bosnian hitman was expected to join Inter, but in a real coup for the Lupi, signed a new deal with the capital side. Dzeko is 5/1 to strike first, while young sensationm Nicolo Zaniolo is 17/2. Roma are 11/5 to emerge triumphant.
One to watch for Lazio: Luis Alberto does not produce the same numbers as Immobile but is a vital component of the Aquile attack. The selfless Spaniard is 7/4 to bag anytime.
One to watch for Roma: Kolarov notched 9 goals from 40 appearances in all competitions and there are few better from a dead-ball scenario than the veteran. The left-back is 11/2 to score anytime.
Long shot: With the transfer window in Europe drawing to a close, Roma are still searching for defensive reinforcements with Dejan Lovren and Daniele Rugani the top targets. The Lupi fielded Fabrizio Fazio and Juan Jesus against Genoa and both made sloppy errors, while Lazio are settled and know their best eleven. A 3-1 victory in favour of the Aquile is available at 14/1.
