Lazio vs. Roma Predictions and Preview
It has been a difficult fortnight for Lazio who have lost their last three matches in all competitions. The Biancocelesti were dumped out of the Europa League by Sevilla in disappointing fashion and suffered defeat to Genoa on the domestic front.
Inzaghi does have a good squad at his disposal with Joaquín Correa and Felipe Caicedo chipping in with a combined 14 goal involvements to date. Leading forward Ciro Immobile has, by his own very high standards, not hit the heights of previous campaigns and his current tally of 12 is a surprise.
Nevertheless, the Neapolitan is well backed in the first goalscorer betting at 4/1 and has a good record against Roma. Lazio are 13/8 to get revenge on the Lupi for their win earlier in the season and 23/10 to pick up a point.
Elsewhere, morale in Eusebio Di Francesco’s camp is high after Edin Dzeko’s last gasp winner against Frosinone. The Lupi went a goal behind, before leading 2-1 win 10 minutes to go, until Andrea Pinamonti levelled the scores to set up a grandstand finish.
Pleasingly for Di Francesco, Dzeko is now back in form as the business end of the term approaches and Roma can only benefit from the hotshot’s upturn in fortunes through on goal. Dzeko is 8/2 to open proceedings and, like fellow forward Immobile, tends to rise to the occasion on Derby day. The Lupi are 8/5 to emerge triumphant and maintain their Champions League assault.
One to watch for Lazio: Felipe Caicedo has fared well when deputising for Immobile this year and is likely to feature after the break. The former Manchester City attacker is 13/2 to net last.
One to watch for Roma: Wonderkid Nicolò Zaniolo will not be fazed by the magnitude of the occasion and is 11/2 to net anytime during the grudge match and endear himself further to the Lupi faithful.
Long shot: Derby della Capitale rarely disappoints and it promises to be another captivating watch between two European hopefuls. Expect goals, fireworks and many talking points as Roma and Lazio tussle it out. A pulsating 2-2 outcome can be found at 11/1.
