Leicester v Crystal Palace Predictions and Preview

Leicester City are back on home soil for this game after their midweek excursion to Merseyside to play Everton, while Crystal Palace have had an extra couple of days to prepare following their defeat to Burnley on Monday.

Home advantage hasn’t really counted for much in recent meetings between these clubs though, with their last 10 encounters producing five away wins and four home victories. Five of those nine wins are Palace’s, including three of the away ones.

Roy Hodgson needs to rally his troops after back-to-back defeats, even if one of those was against newly-crowned champions Liverpool. The Eagles boss will be glad of those two additional days to plan for this game, with his team still in the frame for a place in Europe next season.

Leicester, meanwhile, are in danger of being pulled back into the battle for fourth. The Foxes drew their first two league games back after the break, while they also crashed out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 defeat to top four rivals Chelsea last weekend.

Leicester’s victory over Palace earlier this season ended a run of four straight wins for the Eagles in this fixture, during which the Londoners scored 13 goals and conceded only one. That run included a 3-0, 5-0 and 4-1 victory, so they were mostly very convincing.

The Foxes had been enjoying a superb season prior to the three-month hiatus though, having looked like they’d sewn up third place and a return to the Champions League next season. Chelsea have reeled them in though, so James Maddison being available for this game would be huge for them after an injury.

Palace look like being without Christian Benteke for this trip to the East Midlands, while James Tomkins, Martin Kelly and former Foxes man Jeffrey Schlupp are all out too. The visitors are the 23/4 underdogs for the win, while Leicester are 8/13 and the draw is priced at 3/1

One to watch for Leicester: Jamie Vardy is yet to score since the break, but only needs one more goal to match his second-best Premier League tally of 20 for the season. He is 3/1 to do so by netting the opener on Saturday.

One to watch for Crystal Palace: Luka Milivojevic is some way off his best returns, having netted just his third league goal of the season when he broke the deadlock at Bournemouth in Palace’s first game back. He could prove wonderful value at 18/1 for the first goal here though.

Long shot: Palace have enjoyed some big wins against Leicester in recent seasons. A lack of fans inside stadiums has led to more sterile encounters over the last few weeks, but the Eagles are 150/1 to beat Leicester 3-0 at the King Power for a second time in two and a half years.
