Leicester v Southampton Predictions and Preview
This fixture sees two teams who’ve enjoyed great starts to the Premier League season looking to continue their strong form as we head towards the second half of the campaign. There’s no doubt hosts Leicester City are the favourites in the betting, but Southampton ought to pose a serious threat under the Saturday night lights.
Both teams won their last league game following back-to-back draws, with Leicester seeing off Newcastle United 2-1 on the road. That came on the back of stalemates with Manchester United and Crystal Palace, and preceded a comfortable 4-0 win at Stoke City in the FA Cup last weekend.
Southampton’s FA Cup clash was postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak at Shrewsbury Town, giving the Saints a near two-week break before this game. Ralph Hasenhuttl probably didn’t want that following their wonderful 1-0 victory over Liverpool last time out, which came on the back of a pair of goalless draws with Fulham and West Ham.

Leicester to win 2-1
Vardy to score first
Saints fans will want to see their team back amongst the goals sooner rather than later, with Southampton only scoring two times in their last five matches. Putting the ball in the back of the net has been little trouble for Leicester, who’ve scored 11 goals in their last five.
The Foxes have looked sharp and clinical across most of the season, which is why they find themselves up in the Champions League places coming into this Leicester v Southampton preview. Brendan Rodgers’ side are a dynamic, talented team looking to upset the established elite once again this term, and they are the 10/11 favourites to win this game.
Southampton are 7/2, and they are certainly capable of causing an upset. They’ll need to be as defensively sound as they have been in recent games, having kept three successive clean sheets ahead of this game. Before that, the Saints only let in one goal against Manchester City.
A draw would be a decent result for the visitors at 56/19, while a third 0-0 in four games is available at 14/1. Given both teams have plenty of pace on the break and usually like to press their opponents high up the pitch, a goalless draw doesn’t appear very likely though.
One to watch for Leicester: Jamie Vardy has been in top form this season. He has 11 goals and five assists in 16 appearances, and is the 27/10 favourite to open the scoring in these Leicester v Southampton predictions.
One to watch for Southampton: Danny Ings is just as important to Southampton as Vardy is to Leicester. He has scored seven times in 13 Premier League games, including the winner against Liverpool last time out, and is 11/2 to break the deadlock on Saturday.
Long shot: It was only last season that Leicester beat Southampton 9-0. A repeat of that result is incredibly unlikely at 200/1, but if you fancy another nine-goal thriller, a 5-4 Leicester victory is priced at 300/1. With Vardy scoring first, those odds rise to an eye-popping 1112/1.
