Liverpool are looking to bounce back from the rare disappointment of defeat as they welcome Bournemouth to Anfield in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off. The Reds slumped to their first loss of the season last weekend, while Bournemouth slipped into the relegation zone.

Liverpool v Bournemouth Predictions and Preview

Although Bournemouth gained a credible point against Chelsea last weekend, it wasn’t enough to save the Cherries from dropping into the bottom three. With that in mind, the last thing Eddie Howe could do with is a trip to Anfield.

Liverpool are a wounded beast after meekly surrendering their unbeaten record to Watford with little fight. Jurgen Klopp will demand a reaction after seeing the chance to make history and equal Arsenal’s Invincibles pass him by, and he will fully expect his team to blow Bournemouth away.

Liverpool have won each of the last five meetings between the teams, keeping a clean sheet on every occasion. The Reds have scored 17 goals in that run, at an average of 3.4 per game. Klopp’s champions-elect had been peerless this season too up until their surprisingly poor performance at Vicarage Road, and we must assume they merely suffered a minor blip.

Having run away with the league and still fighting for cup glory, Liverpool can’t afford for a rot to set in. With the players they have and the levels they’ve reached this season, it isn’t expected to. They may be missing captain Jordan Henderson still, which was perhaps a factor in their first defeat last weekend, but the Reds are the overwhelming 1/5 favourites to get back to winning ways here.

Bournemouth will be without on-loan Harry Wilson, who isn’t allowed to play against his parent club, while Charlie Daniels, David Brooks and Chris Mepham are all out, along with Arnaut Groeneveld. Little is expected of the visitors in this game, and they are 14/1 for the win. If you think Howe can convince his players that Liverpool are vulnerable at the moment, the draw’s priced at 11/2

One to watch for Liverpool: Mo Salah has seven goals in five games against Bournemouth for Liverpool, including a hat-trick at the Vitality Stadium last season. The Egyptian is the 3/1 favourite to open the scoring on Saturday.

One to watch for Bournemouth: The goals have dried up for Callum Wilson this season. The England international has only managed seven in 27 Premier League appearances so far this term. Breaking the deadlock at Anfield would be a timely reminder for Gareth Southgate of his abilities ahead of Euro 2020, and Wilson is 12/1 to do so.

Long shot: While three of the last five games between these teams have ended 3-0 to Liverpool, the other two have been 4-0 to the Reds. Klopp’s side are 11/1 to win this game 4-0 once again, while a 3-0 home win is priced at 15/2
