Liverpool v Leeds Predictions and Preview

Two of the most entertaining sides in the Premier League will bid to serve up a festive feast of football in Boxing Day’s early kick-off. Liverpool have been in great form of late, while the opposite is true of Leeds who need to be careful they don’t take another hiding in the North West.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are currently on a three-match losing run, going down 3-2 to Chelsea and 4-1 to Arsenal either side of a 7-0 humiliation at Manchester City. The Whites were also thrashed 5-1 away to Manchester United at the start of the season, and have only managed to beat bottom club Norwich City on the road this term.

Leeds have lost five of their nine away games so far in 2021-22, making a trip to Anfield a daunting prospect on Sunday. Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 13 home matches in the Premier league, going back to last season. The Reds have only dropped points this season at Anfield against Chelsea, Man City and Brighton, with the latter the only team to avoid defeat outside the title contenders.

They may have lost some ground to City following their 2-2 draw at Tottenham last time out, but considering they went down to 10 men in the second half, that wasn’t the worst point Liverpool will get this season. After an easy victory away to Leeds earlier in the campaign, the Reds are fully excepted to return to winning ways here.

The hosts are the overwhelming 1/6 favourites in this Liverpool v Leeds preview, while you can back the away team at 19/1. Even the draw looks improbable at 9/1, with Leeds looking incredibly suspect defensively this season.

They may have suffered some unfortunate injuries to key personnel who are well versed in Bielsa’s ways, but if they don’t protect goalkeeper Illan Meslier much more in this game, the Leeds goalkeeper will be picking the ball out of his net time and again at Anfield on Boxing Day.

One to watch for Liverpool: Mo Salah is in top form at present. He has 15 goals in 18 Premier League appearances so far this term and is the 5/2 favourite to break the deadlock in these Liverpool v Leeds predictions.

One to watch for Leeds: Raphinha is Leeds’ top scorer this season with eight goals in 16 games. The Brazilian is out at 20/1 though to open the scoring on Sunday.

Long shot: Leeds were annihilated 7-0 by Man City the other week, and if Liverpool click here, they could be in trouble again. The Reds are 100/1 to dish out another 7-0 beating in these Liverpool v Leeds tips, rising to 322/1 with Salah scoring first. If you add Salah getting a hat-trick to that selection, your odds will be 1,432/1
