Liverpool v West Ham Predictions and Preview
Excitement is building on Merseyside after another summer of heavy investment. Jurgen Klopp welcomed Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and goalkeeper Alisson in to the ranks and there is a real belief this could be the Scousers year. Star man Salah is the obvious choice to get on the scoresheet and is 12/5 to strike first and 17/2 to bag a hat-trick.
Fellow forward Firmino, who is instrumental in how the Reds play, is 10/11 to register anytime and the Brazilian is one of the division’s most influential performers. The versatile attacker featured for his country at the World Cup and the five-time champions were more threatening when Firmino was on the pitch.
In midfield, Keita arrives as one of Europe’s most sought after talents. The Guinean is the complete package and will thrill the natives this year. Keita hit nine goals in all competitions for former side RB Leipzig and will be encouraged to support the front three with Fabinho and skipper Jordan Henderson sitting in front of the defence. The 23-year-old is 21/10 to open his Reds account anytime during the clash.
Travelling party West Ham have also enjoyed a busy summer. Pellegrini’s predecessor David Moyes often bemoaned he was not adequately backed in the market but the same cannot be said for the Chilean.
Andriy Yarmolenko, record buy Felipe Anderson and Jack Wilshere are all expected to start for their new club with Marko Arnautovic leading the line. The Austrian is 10/1 to open proceedings while Anderson is 16/1 in the same market. Meanwhile, the Irons are placed at 11/1 to pick up the three points.
One to watch for Liverpool: Daniel Sturridge looked sharp in pre-season and will be an asset to Klopp when Firmino needs a breather. The Englishman is 7/2 to hit the final goal of the encounter.
One to watch for West Ham: Fox in the box Javier Hernandez is at his most dangerous in the closing stages of matches and will relish the opportunity of putting Liverpool to the sword. The former Manchester United forward is 9/1 to net last.
Long shot: West Ham are priced at 100/1 to repeat the 3-0 scoreline they achieved almost three years ago on Merseyside. The result ended a 52-year wait for a victory at Anfield and the same result would be all the more impressive given Liverpool have not lost a league fixture on home soil in over 17 months.
