Manchester City vs. Atlético Madrid Predictions and Preview

Manchester City strolled through their round of 16 tie after thrashing Sporting 5-0 in Lisbon in the first leg. The second game was then a mere formality ahead of this clash with Atlético Madrid. It has not been a perfect European campaign for City, but they did top a group ahead of PSG and RB Leipzig – and now know that Chelsea or Real Madrid await in the semi final if they get past this hurdle.

It has been a harder season for Diego Simeone and his Atlético team. A more expansive approach did not work and sees the club well off the pace in La Liga. But they navigated an even trickier Champions League group, beating Porto and Milan to second place behind Liverpool. Now they will see if they can beat the other half of Manchester after dumping United out in the last round.

Manchester City vs. Atlético Madrid full time result odds

Atlético’s two victories in the group stage came away from home and they won the round of 16 tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford, so the odds of 8/1 for an Atlético win here do seem like good value. But Simeone is likely to put out a team that avoids defeat more than anything. City will counter that with their own attacking verve – but the draw at 18/5 looks like the best bet here.

Manchester City vs. Atlético Madrid both teams to score odds

Simeone will be quite happy if no one goes home celebrating a goal on Tuesday, as he looks to force Pep Guardiola into second-guessing his tactics. There is a strong possibility that this game will finish with no goals scored at all but even if someone does manage to find the net, it might be the only one. A bet against both teams to score at 7/10 looks best here.

Manchester City vs. Atlético Madrid correct score odds

Even with the array of attacking talent available for both sides here, this game is more likely to be very low scoring due to the seriousness of the occasion and Atlético Madrid’s usual tactics in these kinds of situations. City might be able to force a goal but the best value correct score prediction is probably odds of 14/1 for a 0-0 draw.

Manchester City vs. Atlético Madrid first goalscorer odds

With Atlético Madrid likely to be on the defensive at the Etihad on Tuesday, it is the City team that should be looked at for the possibility of scoring an all-important first goal. Riyad Mahrez seems to be the favourite – and is the club’s top scorer this season – but there are a number of other options. Raheem Sterling at around 5/1 might be worth a go.
