Last time: These two historic clubs haven’t crossed paths since 2010, when United thrashed Milan 4-0 at Old Trafford in the second leg of a Champions League last-16 tie. That took the Premier League outfit through to the quarter-finals courtesy of a 7-2 aggregate victory.

Manchester United v Milan Predictions and Preview

The Red Devils play host to Il Diavolo, as Manchester United and AC Milan both seek to gain the upper hand in this Europa League clash. There are interesting storylines coursing through this fixture, with a place in next month’s quarter-finals up for grabs.

One of the leading narratives ought to have surrounded Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The mercurial Swede was in line to return to Manchester for the first time since leaving United in 2018, but a groin injury looks set to deny the enigmatic striker his moment at Old Trafford.

Milan coach Stefano could be missing a further raft of players for this tough trip to the North West of England, with Mario Mandzukic, Ante Rebic, Ismael Bennacer and reported United target Hakan Calhanoglu all set to miss out.

Man United, meanwhile, are missing first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea, who is on paternity leave back in his native Spain. Dean Henderson has been pushing for a run in the team though, and those claims were further backed up by an impressive performance in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

An ankle injury forced key man Marcus Rashford off in the second half against Manchester City, and the England international is a doubt for this game. Fellow forward Edinson Cavani is also doubtful, alongside Donny van de Beek, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba.

Even so, United should have the quality to see off Milan on Thursday evening. The Rossoneri have suffered a blip in recent weeks, winning only two of their last seven matches. United, meanwhile, rose to the occasion against City and produced an exceptional performance which should’ve yielded a more convincing win than the 2-0 triumph they managed against their local rivals.

Milan also won 2-0 away from home at the weekend though, with United loanee Diogo Dalot on target with a lovely strike in their victory over Hellas Verona. Dalot is eligible to face his parent club this week, and will be looking to prove his worth to his primary employers.

This Manchester United v Milan preview is an intriguing match-up between the two teams placed second in the Premier League and Serie A, with United the 9/13 odds-on favourites in the betting. The Rossoneri are priced at 4/1 with William Hill to take a lead back to the San Siro for next week’s second leg, with the draw available at 3/1

One to watch for Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes scored an early penalty to set United on the way to a derby win at the weekend. That was the Portuguese playmaker’s 23rd goal of the season in all competitions, and he is the 7/2 favourite to break the deadlock in this game.

One to watch for Milan: With Ibrahimovic set to miss out, Rafael Leao is expected to lead the line for AC. A future full Portugal international, he is looking for his first goal since early January and could be interesting at 12/1 for the opener in these Manchester United v Milan predictions.

Long shot: Man United are a brilliant team on their day, full of pace and purpose in attack when they’re in the mood. The Reds thrashed Milan 4-0 the last time the Rossoneri visited Manchester, with the same result this week priced at 30/1. With Fernandes scoring first, those odds rise to 146/1
