Milan v Bologna Predictions and Preview

The feel-good factor is back in Milan. In Gigio Donnarumma, Theo Hernandez, Bennacer and Sandro Tonali, the Rossoneri arguably have four of the continent’s finest talents in the ranks. Donnarumma has made over 200 appearances for the Rossoneri and will shatter idol Gigi Buffon’s Serie A appearance record.

Slightly further forward, Hernandez was a revelation at left-back and recently committed his long-term future to the Rossoneri. The Marseille native netted on six occasions last season and is 4/1 to strike anytime. Bennacer is admired by PSG while Tonali turned down advances from the Bianconeri and Antonio Conte to join the team he supported as a boy.

Pioli can also call upon Franck Kessie, Alessio Romagnoli, Rebic, Rafael Leao, and, of course, talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede was the catalyst for the upturn in both performances and results upon his second arrival in January and few would bet against the legendary hitman to lead Milan to a top four place and a trophy.

Ibrahimovic is 5/2 favourite to open proceedings, while partner Rebic follows closely at 4/1. The Croatian saw his loan move made permanent after contributing 11 strikes and three assists and can either play out wide or through the middle. The Rossoneri are 4/7 to win on the night.

Visitors Bologna have a lot of pace in the side with Riccardo Orsolini, Musa Barrow and Juwara in attack. With the exception of Federico Chiesa, there is not another Italian in Serie A who can offer the width and dribbling ability of the Azzurri international.

Orsolini is 10/3 to bag anytime, while Barrow is available at 9/4. The Gambian averaged one in two after moving from Atalanta in the winter and his €13 million transfer fee could conceivably treble inn 12 months if he posts similar numbers. The Rossoblu are 9/2 to shock Milan and 3/1 to earn a draw.

One to watch for Milan: Calhanoglu is 6/1 to break the deadlock and is finally starring in his preferred position. The Turkey ace cut a frustrated figure under Marco Giampaolo but is one of Pioli’s best performers.

One to watch for Bologna: Rodrigo Palacio is the same age as Ibrahimovic and is still delivering on the pitch. The Argentine is likely to appear after the break and is 10/1 to notch last.

Long shot: After a significant period of inconsistency and poor transfer dealings, Milan look a fearsome proposition again. Pioli has been ably assisted by Ibrahimovic but there are few squads in Italy that boast the depth and personnel of the Rossoneri. A convincing 4-1 triumph is 22/1 ahead of the Derby di Milano with bitter neighbours Inter.
