Milan v Cagliari Predictions and Preview
After finishing second, albeit 12 points behind arch-rivals Inter last term, AC Milan kicked off the new campaign in a perfect manner with a 1-0 victory away to Sampdoria.
Brahim Diaz scored the only goal before the break, but things were far from easy for the Rossoneri after the break. Sampdoria shot 16 times towards Mike Maignan’s goal, but failed to beat him on his debut. The French goalkeeper impressed right away and Stefano Pioli will hope that his new acquisition will prove to be a successful heir to Gianluigi Donnarumma, who joined Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Alessandro Florenzi arrived from Roma, after the Italy international spent the last year on loan with the French giants. Tiemoue Bakayoko seems set to return to Milan, as the Rossoneri are in advanced talks with Chelsea and his arrival should give Pioli more options in midfield.
The Rossoneri have won their last four games against Cagliari without conceding, boasting a commanding 10-0 goal difference. Milan have also won their last 13 home games against the Sardinians, so the absence of Ibrahimovic shouldn’t worry the hosts too much.

Milan to win 3-0
Cagliari, meanwhile, had to come back from a two-goal deficit in their Serie A opener against Spezia, as the Sardinians started the game in a dreadful way, conceding after only seven minutes.
Joao Pedro once again made the difference for the Rossoblu, as the Brazilian netted a brace in the second half and seems set for another impressive campaign.
Pedro netted 16 league goals last term, 18 in the previous year and is the last Cagliari player to score a goal against Milan, albeit this was back in 2018. That game was the last time Cagliari didn’t lose to Milan, as the Sardinians earned a 1-1 draw at home.
Leonardo Semplici’s men need to improve significantly in defence, unless they want to be involved in the relegation battle once again after finishing just four points above the drop zone last term.
Unsurprisingly, Milan enter the clash as firm 4/9 favourites with William Hill. The draw is priced at 17/5, while a what would be a historic victory for Cagliari at San Siro is available at 13/2.
One to watch for Milan: Olivier Giroud is handed the tough task to replace the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the start of the campaign. The Frenchman looked good in pre-season after scoring three goals, but failed to find the back of the net against Sampdoria. Giroud will be eager to open his account in Serie A against Cagliari and is 7/2 favorite to score the opener against the Rossoblu.
One to watch for Cagliari: Joao Pedro scored both goals for Cagliari in the 2-2 draw against Spezia. The Brazilian netted 16 times for the Sardinians last term and is 7/1 to break the deadlock against Milan on Sunday evening.
Long shot: AC Milan have won their last two home games against Cagliari 3-0, so if you are looking for bigger odds a repeat of that result on Sunday is available at 9/1. The odds rise to 44/1 if you pair this with Olivier Giroud scoring the opener.
