Milan v Inter Predictions and Preview

AC Milan may have beaten Inter 2-1 when they were the away team in this fixture last season, but that was the Rossoneri’s only victory over their local rivals in the last 10 Serie A meetings between these clubs. This latest instalment of the Derby della Madonnina promises to be intriguing between the current champions and one of the league’s two early pacesetters.

The Rossoneri have made a stunning start to the 2021-22 Serie A season, unbeaten through their opening 11 fixtures with 10 victories and only a single draw. Even that was away to Juventus, a result which seems to vary in merit from week to week.

Inter may have only lost once so far in the early stages of their title defence, but their three draws mean the Nerazzurri find themselves seven points behind both Milan and Napoli. We could be in for one of the most exciting title races in recent memory, and matches like this will frame the narrative.

Despite their superb form and home designation, Stefano Piolo’s side are the betting underdogs in this Milan v Inter preview. The Rossoneri are 21/10 for the win, while Inter are 25/19 and the draw is priced at 31/11

The pressure to get the win is undoubtedly on Inter this weekend. Defeat for the Nerazzurri would leave Simone Inzaghi’s side 10 points off top spot, with nearly a third of the campaign gone. They can take some comfort from their recent record in the Derby della Madonnina though.

Inter have won five of the last six Serie A meetings between the clubs, while also knocking their local rivals out of the Coppa Italia last season. AC’s last home league win in the fixture was back in January 2016, with Inter assuming control for the most part in the years since.

This current Milan side looks as strong as it has done in that intervening time though, and their status as underdogs makes them very appealing in the betting. A Rossoneri win with both teams scoring could be well worth a look at 4/1, while a 2-1 Milan victory is priced at 11/1

One to watch for Milan: Zlatan Ibrahimovic is rarely out of the headlines, while the mercurial Swede is also back in the goals after netting three in his last five Serie A appearances. He broke the deadlock in last weekend’s 2-1 win at Roma and is 19/4 to do the same again in these Milan v Inter predictions.

One to watch for Inter: Joaquin Correa was back in the goals with a decisive brace in Inter’s 2-0 victory over Udinese last weekend. The Argentine is fully fit and firing again after some injury troubles, and 15/2 to net his first goal in the Milan derby by scoring the opener this weekend.

Long shot: Four of the last six Milan derbies have seen both teams score, producing a total of 22 goals at an average of 3.7 per game. Milan scored three times in their last home league win against Inter and are available at 26/1 to win this match 3-1. If you’re looking for bigger odds in these Milan v Inter tips, try adding Ibrahimovic as the first goalscorer for 120/1
