Milan vs. Napoli Serie A Betting Tips and Preview

Milan vs. Napoli, Serie A

They may be engulfed in civil war right now, but the Napoli players must concentrate on the job at hand as they face a tricky trip to AC Milan this weekend. The Rossoneri are languishing down in 14th place in the Serie A table at the moment, but they remain a threat to a Gli Azzurri side who are well below their best at present.

Last time: Milan dumped Napoli out of the Copa Italia with a 2-0 victory at the San Siro in late January, with Krzysztof Piatek netting a first-half brace for the hosts.

Milan v Napoli Predictions and Preview

Both of these teams come into this weekend’s fixture in poor form and in need of a good result. While Milan have only won one of their last five, Napoli are without a victory in the same number of games and haven’t taken all three points in Serie A since beating Hellas Verona at home in mid-September.

With the furore surrounding owner Aurelio De Laurentiis showing few signs of abating, and legal action threatened to dock the wages of the Napoli players by double the 25% allowed, Carlo Ancelotti is faced with a virtually impossible situation to navigate. All the experienced coach can do is focus on preparing his players for what could be a tough outing.

Milan have been struggling, losing their last two games to Juventus and Lazio, and three of their last four, but they do have some talented players within their ranks. Whether or not we see any evidence of that this weekend remains to be seen, with Il Diavolo’s poor form consigning them to a massive 19-point deficit to league leaders Juve.

Nevertheless, this is a big game and both sets of players should be up for it. There’s usually been plenty of goals when they’ve faced each other in recent seasons, with 28 in the last 10 and only two goalless draws. With that in mind, an over 2.5 goals bet in a match between two teams who’ve struggled at the back this term could prove nice value at 10/11.

If you’re after outright odds, then visitors Napoli are the 12/10 favourites to claim all three points. They could be without Arkadiusz Milik and Faouzi Ghoulam though, while Kevin Malcuit is definitely out with a knee ligament injury.

For the home team, Hakan Calhanoglu and Ismaël Bennacer are suspended, while Mateo Musacchio and Samuel Castillejo are injury doubts. You can back Milan at 23/10 for the win, while the draw this weekend is available at 34/13.

One to watch for Milan: Krzysztof Piatek has struggled to find his goalscoring form so far this season, only managing three goals from 12 Serie A appearances. He netted twice the last time he played against Napoli though, and could be good value at 11/2 for the first goal this weekend.

One to watch for Napoli: Dries Mertens has seen the net bulge on four occasions so far this term, and his performance here could be even more vital if Milik misses out. Mertens is 11/2 to break the deadlock on Saturday evening.

Long shot: Milan have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three home games against Napoli. With the away team in disarray, the Rossoneri will view this game as a great opportunity to get some momentum back, and they’re available at 21/1 to win 2-0.
