Milan v Napoli Predictions and Preview

Stefano Pioli and his patched-up troops deserve immense credit for their 2-0 victory over Verona in the previous gameweek. Ordinarily, a trip to the Gialloblu with a full squad would be a tough challenge but Milan came away with the spoils and are still fighting for the Scudetto.

Pioli will again be without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mario Mandzukic and Ismael Bennacer but Theo Hernandez, Hakan Calhanoglu and Ante Rebic are available.

Rafael Leao will deputise for the Swedish talisman and is 6/1 to break the deadlock. The young forward offers a different option to the more orthodox Ibrahimovic and Mandzukic and has matched his tally from last term with a large chunk of the football still to play.

Rebic, Calhanoglu and Alexis Saelemaekers are the regular trio off the frontman and the Rossoneri number 10 is 7/2 to bag anytime. Spot-kick specialist Franck Kessie is 3/1 in the same market and the hosts are 31/20 to chalk up the win.

Napoli continue to frustrate their supporters. Only Inter and Atalanta have scored more than the Azzurri domestically and Gennaro Gattuso’s troops have proven they can beat any side in the division.

However, the visitors have lost nearly a third of their league fixtures and will fall out of European contention altogether if this sequence carries on until May. Lorenzo Insigne’s agent has this week said there is strong interest in his client from abroad and in Italy and the local lad could stun the natives and seek a move.

In the meantime, Insigne is fully focused and can be found at 11/2 to open proceedings. Fellow attackers Dries Mertens and Hirving Lozano are 5/1 and 13/2, respectively, to score anytime and the Mexican’s recovery from a muscle strain is a boost for under-fire Gattuso. Napoli are 9/5 to emerge triumphant and a stalemate is 23/10.

One to watch for Milan: Rebic will feature from the left flank but is just as comfortable through the middle. The Croatian is a big game player and is 13/2 to register first.

One to watch for Napoli: Victor Osimhen has struggled with injuries since his arrival but is now fully fit and back on the scoresheet. The Azzurri record buy is 11/5 to notch anytime.

Long shot: Pioli will be thrilled to welcome back first-teamers but there is no guarantee they will hit the ground running after a period on the sidelines. Elsewhere, Napoli have toppled Juventus, Atalanta and Roma this season, but suffered defeats to Spezia and Genoa who are battling the drop. Nevertheless, Gattuso will fancy his chances against an Ibrahimovic-less Milan and a 2-0 away success is 18/1.
