Milan vs. Sassuolo Predictions and Preview
It is won five, drawn three for Milan from their last eight matches and it has been some turnaround for both players and boss Gennaro Gattuso. The Rossoneri legend was reportedly close to losing his job in December but deserves immense credit for the transformation of his squad in 2019.
Milan are benefitting from a settled line-up and Gattuso has prospered where the likes of Clarence Seedorf and Pippo Inzaghi have faltered. From front to back the improvement has been visible with young prodigy Gigi Donnarumma stamping out the silly mistakes that crept in to his game last year, while defender and captain Alessio Romagnoli continues to perform beyond his years at the heart of defence.
Further forward, Tiémoué Bakayoko looks reinvigorated following a dismal spell at Chelsea while Lucas Paquetá has slotted in seamlessly.
As it stands, Milan should be considered as the favourites to not only finish in the Champions League places, but trump bitter rivals Inter to third. While Nerazzurri continue to be destabilised by the Mauro Icardi soap opera, the red half are flying, courtesy of striking sensation Krzysztof Piątek.
The Genoa winter import has hit the ground running and looks a snip at £30.9m. Piatek continues to prove he is the real deal and only Cristiano Ronaldo has more league goals than the Pole. Piatek is the 4/1 favourite to open the scoring while Milan are 4/9 for all three points.
Visitors Sassuolo have only netted three less than Milan prior to their meeting, but shipped a whopping 18 more at the other end. The Neroverdi are 7/1 to pull off what would be a shock result and 7/2 to share the spoils.
One to watch for Milan: Suso is back in the fold after a spell out and is an attractive 17/2 to bag the final effort of the encounter.
One to watch for Sassuolo: Khouma Babacar leads the way in the goalscoring stakes for the travelling party and is 10/1 in the same betting.
Long shot: Milan have gone from strength to strength since the turn of the year and the convincing 3-1 triumph away at Atalanta further highlighted their growing confidence. While champions Juventus toiled, the Rossoneri confidently dispatched La Dea and all signs point towards another victory. A 3-0 feat in favour of Gattuso’s troops is 11/1.
