Milan v Sassuolo Predictions and Preview

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will return for the Rossoneri after serving a one-game suspension. The Swede is close to achieving his personal objective of guiding the Italian giants back to the Champions League and merits his contract extension.

Milan may have led the division for several months but the newer recruits will benefit from the experience in the long run. The Rossoneri are the fourth youngest squad in Europe’s top five leagues and will be well equipped to challenge Inter and Juventus for the Scudetto in 2021-22 if Pioli is able to add two or three quality reinforcements to play alongside Theo Hernandez, Sandro Tonali, Ismael Bennacer, Rafael Leao, Jens Petter Hauge and Gigio Donnarumma, if the vice-captain commits pens a new deal.

Ibrahimovic is 9/2 to break the deadlock and will be ably supported by Leao, Rebic and Hakan Calhanoglu. Much like Donnarumma, the latter’s future is also up in the air and there are whispers the outgoing champions and Antonio Conte are interested in snapping up the Turkey international on a free.

Pioli has continued to pick Calhanoglu despite all the off-field talk and the playmaker is 8/5 to register anytime. Rebic and Leao are 11/10 and 15/8, respectively, in the same market and there is plenty in reserve if required. Milan are 4/7 to clinch victory and a draw is 16/5.

Visitors Sassuolo are a talented, but inconsistent group. Manuel Locatelli and Berardi are the standout performers but Francesco Caputo, Jeremie Boga, Hamed Traore and Maxime Lopez are all capable of hurting the opposition.

Locatelli is Juventus’ top target this summer and has flourished since leaving his boyhood club. The Milan youth graduate is 16/1 to break the deadlock and compatriot Berardi can be found at 9/1. Boga is 14/1 to hit the last effort and the Neroverdi are 9/2 to emerge triumphant.

One to watch for Milan: Theo Hernandez has not given up on representing France at Euro 2020 and Didier Deschamps will struggle to overlook the flying full-back for much longer. The Marseille native has 12 goal involvements to his name and is 5/2 to bag anytime.

One to watch for Sassuolo: Caputo is also battling to feature at the same competition and averages one in two this term. The evergreen forward is 9/1 to notch first.

Long shot: Sassuolo have been compared to Atalanta for their style of play and there are many similarities between two of Italy’s most entertaining sides. The Neroverdi are leaky, but, equally, possess a big threat in the offensive third and a 3-2 away result is 35/1.
