Last time: Monaco recorded a pair of 2-1 victories over Nantes last season, with Guillermo Maripan and Kevin Volland on target for the Monegasques in the most recent clash at the Stade de la Beaujoire in January.
Monaco v Nantes Predictions and Preview
Monaco have a superb record against Nantes over recent years, and the principality club will hope to continue that in this Ligue 1 season opener. It’s an early opportunity for the Monegasques to stake a claim to their status as title challengers.
Niko Kovac’s side will be expected to beat Nantes, especially after their visitors on Friday needed a relegation play-off to salvage their top-flight status last term. The hosts have also won each of their last six matches against La Maison Jaune, scoring 11 goals and conceding only four.
Nantes’ last victory in this fixture was 1-0 triumph at home in November 2017. That’s the Canaries’ only win in their last 16 attempts against Monaco, while you have to go back to 2012 to find their last victory at the Stade Louis II, when the clubs were down in Ligue 2 together.
The principality side have certainly seen their ups and downs since those days, while they finished five points behind Ligue 1 champions Lille last season. Monaco have seen a few players depart this summer, but the arrival of young forward Ismail Jakobs from Bundesliga outfit Koln brings some hope.

Monaco to win and BTTS
Monaco to win 2-1
Ben Yedder to score first
Given the Monegasques’ superiority in this fixture, and the fact they returned to form last season after a poor 2019-20 and nightmarish 2018-19, it’s tough to look past the home win at 1/2 with William Hill.
The away team are 6/1 in these Monaco v Nantes predictions, with the draw priced at 37/10. A point would represent a great start for the Canaries, considering their struggles both last term and against their hosts on Friday.
Nantes only finished two points off 14th place in the last campaign, but they still nearly dropped down to the second tier. They lost the second leg of their relegation play-off against Toulouse, only surviving on away goals courtesy of their 2-1 victory in the first game. As such, any form of result would provide a real boost for Antoine Kombouare’s side at the dawn of the new season.
One to watch for Monaco: Wissam Ben Yedder helped himself to 20 goals in Ligue 1 last season, with only Kylian Mbappe scoring more. Ben Yedder will fancy his chances of getting his name on the scoresheet here, and he is 3/1 to do so by netting the opener.
One to watch for Nantes: Ludovic Blas top scored for Nantes with half of Ben Yedder’s total. The 23-year-old could be worth an outside look for the first goal in these Monaco v Nantes tips at 14/1, although his price of 26/5 in the anytime market looks a likelier bet.
Long shot: Three of Monaco’s last six victories over Nantes have finished 2-1 to the Monegasques, including each of the last two. The same outcome this weekend is 15/2 in this Monaco v Nantes preview, rising to 31/1 if you add Ben Yedder as the first scorer.
