Napoli vs. Inter Predictions and Preview
After their disappointing Europa League exit at the hands of Arsenal, Napoli are ending the season positively. The Partenopei were considered the favourites for the competition given Carlo Ancelotti’s European expertise but the Premier League outfit ultimately advanced with ease.
Even so, Ancelotti has had time to identify the areas in his squad which need reinforcing and with Aurelio De Laurentiis’ backing, Napoli are poised to make a splash and bring in the players to improve them further.
Top scorer Arek Milik has been one of the plus points of the campaign for Ancelotti. The talented striker has come through the 2018-19 term unscathed after a miserable 24 months on the sidelines and is one shy of a 20-goal haul. Milik is 5/1 to open proceedings, while Napoli are 6/4 to emerge triumphant and 17/10 to earn a point.
Visitors Inter beat Chievo 2-0 in their last fixture. The Nerazzurri are currently managed by Luciano Spalletti but the ex-Roma boss is expected to be replaced by Antonio Conte. The former Premier League and Serie A winning manager is close to penning a four-year deal and the signature is considered a real coup across Italy given Conte was a reported Roma, Milan and Juventus target.
Conte is keen on Romelu Lukaku, but in the meantime Mauro Icardi will run out for the away team and is 4/1 to net first. The Argentine’s issues with the club have been well documented and if these are his final appearances for Inter, he will want to bow out in style. The Nerazzurri are 17/10 to register a victory.
One to watch for Napoli: Dries Mertens will come back in to the fold after missing the SPAL win through injury. The Belgian is 9/5 to net anytime.
One to watch for Inter: Ivan Perisic has been the Nerazzurri’s standout performer in recent weeks and is 6/1 to score the final goal of the contest.
Long shot: Napoli have comfortably outscored Inter, but it is the Nerazzurri who have a defensive record only bettered by the champions. The Inter rearguard is likely to improve further under the guidance of Conte but Sunday night’s duel should be an enjoyable, open encounter with both all but assured of their respective objectives. A 3-2 triumph for the hosts is 25/1.
