Scotland have a tough group ahead of them at Euro 2020, and they’re preparing for it in earnest with a daunting trip to the Algarve to play the Netherlands. Holland are a team in form as they look to enter this summer’s tournament on a high themselves, while the Oranje also have a superb record against the Tartan Terriers.
Where and when: Estadio Algarve – 2 June, kick-off 19:45

Last time: Former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay scored the only goal of the game just before half-time, as the Netherlands beat Scotland 1-0 at Aberdeen’s Pittodrie in a 2017 friendly.
Netherlands v Scotland Predictions and Preview
Scotland will always have Archie Gemmill and 1978, but they’ve lost their last four games against the Netherlands without scoring a single goal. That run began with a 6-0 demolition at Dutch hands in a qualifier for Euro 2004, although the last two defeats have been by more modest 1-0 scorelines.
Restricting the Oranje to a single goal in this game would represent a positive night’s work for Scotland. Steve Clarke’s side have been placed in a group of death at Euro 2020 alongside Croatia, Czech Republic and bitter rivals England, and a decent result here would set them up nicely for what promises to be a much easier assignment against Luxembourg on Sunday.

Netherlands to win to nil
Netherlands to win 1-0
Depay to score first
The Netherlands face Georgia in their final warm-up match, but Frank de Boer will be keen to get a good thing going against the Scots. The Oranje coach has overcome a tough start in the job – where he became the first Holland manager to fail to win any of his first four games in charge – to win four of his five fixtures since.
The Dutch did lose 4-2 against Turkey in their first qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup in March, but they hit Gibraltar for seven last time out and shared 1-1 draws with both Italy and Spain during De Boer’s opening winless run. A draw here wouldn’t be considered such a success, but it would certainly be a boost for Scotland.
The Scots are the clear underdogs in these Netherlands v Scotland predictions, priced at 7/1 in the latest odds for the game. Holland are 8/15, while you can back the draw on Wednesday night at 16/5 with William Hill.
One to watch for Netherlands: Memphis Depay has become a real leader for both club and country since his ill-fated spell at Man United. The forward is expected to join former Holland boss Ronald Koeman at Barcelona this summer following the expiration of his contract with Lyon, and he is the 19/5 favourite to open the scoring in this game.
One to watch for Scotland: Che Adams has only committed himself to the Scottish team this year with a view to playing at Euro 2020, scoring once in his three appearances so far. The Southampton forward is 4/1 in the anytime scorer market here.
Long shot: The Netherlands are looking for their fifth successive victory over the Scots this week, with the last two meetings between the countries finishing 1-0 to the Oranje. De Boer’s side are 7/1 to make it three 1-0 victories in a row in these Holland v Scotland tips. With Depay getting the goal as he did the last time these countries met, those odds rise to 37/1.
