Premier League leaders Everton are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the new season, as Carlo Ancelotti takes his team to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon. The Magpies have made an okay start to the season, but suffered a heavy, albeit late, defeat in their last match at St James’ Park.
Where and when: St James’ Park – 1 November, kick-off 14:00

Last time: Newcastle staged a stunning late comeback when the teams last met. Everton were 2-0 up and cruising deep into injury time at Goodison Park in January, but Florian Lejeune struck in the 94th and 95th minute to rescue a dramatic point for the visitors.
Newcastle v Everton Predictions and Preview
This is a fixture which has produced plenty of drama over the years, and one in which Everton have held the upper hand in recent seasons. The Toffees have been the Premier League’s early pacesetters this term, but are looking to answer their first real questions this weekend against Newcastle.
Everton lost 2-0 away to Southampton last weekend, meaning they’re now two games without a win after recording four straight victories at the beginning of the campaign. The Toffees’ 2-2 draw with local rivals Liverpool was something of a missed opportunity, especially given the unpredictable nature of this season.
Few would’ve predicted Newcastle’s late capitulation against Manchester United in their last home game. The Magpies were looking good for a point before conceding three times in the final 10 minutes to lose 4-1. Steve Bruce’s side responded with a strong point away to Wolves last weekend, ahead of another tough fixture here.

Everton to win and BTTS
Everton to win 2-1
Calvert-Lewin to score first
Newcastle have only won one of their last nine matches against Everton, and two of the last 15. The Toffees have triumphed on 10 of those occasions, and taken the three points in six of their last nine against the Magpies. That includes five wins to nil, as well as a 2-1 victory at St James’ Park last season.
Everton are the even money favourites to pick up the victory in this one, best priced at evens with William Hill. They will be without suspended duo Richarlison and Lucas Digne though, while as many as seven players are struggling with fitness injuries – including in-form James Rodriguez.
Newcastle will fancy their chances a little more if the impressive Colombian doesn’t feature, although they’ll be missing Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle and Martin Dubravka themselves. Bruce’s side are 16/5 for the win, with the draw in these Newcastle v Everton predictions available at 13/5.
One to watch for Newcastle: Callum Wilson has made an excellent start to life at the Toon, netting four Premier League goals already this term. He is 13/2 to break the deadlock in this game.
One to watch for Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin has three more in the league, plus another three in the League Cup following a spectacular start to the season. He is the 7/2 favourite to score first here.
Long shot: Both teams have scored in each of the last four meetings between these sides, with the same outcome on Sunday priced at 8/11. Everton are 8/1 to beat Newcastle 2-1 at St James’ for the second time in a row, rising to 46/1 with Calvert-Lewin scoring first.
