Paris Saint-Germain’s march towards the Ligue 1 title continues on Wednesday, as Unai Emery’s side look to maintain their lead at the top of the table against Caen. In the final game before the winter break, it’s hard to predict anything but a home win.
Where and when: Parc des Princes – 20 December, kick-off 19:50
Where you can see PSG vs. Caen: BT Sport, bet365 live streaming
Last time: An injury time strike from Ronny Rodelin secured an unexpected point for Caen in this fixture last season.
PSG v Caen Predictions and Preview
After a little wobble where they lost two away games on the spin at Strasbourg and Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain are back to winning ways and huge favourites for this game. Caen come into the clash at the Parc des Princes without a win in four, and could slip out of the top half of the Ligue 1 table for the winter break.
PSG put seven goals in total past Lille and Rennes after those defeats, with all three superstar forwards Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani among the goals. Providing manager Emery keeps his players focused before their holiday, Les Parisiens should sign off for the calendar year with at least a nine point gap to chasing Monaco and Lyon, and they’re priced at 1/12 in the betting.
There’s little hope for Caen, who are available at an incredible 55/1 to take all three points back to Normandy with them. There were mitigating circumstances around the visitor’s draw last season, as it was the last game of the campaign and PSG had already lost the title to Monaco, while Caen were playing for survival. The bookmakers don’t fancy a repeat performance from the visitors on Wednesday, with the draw priced at 31/2.
That last draw came after PSG had beaten Caen 6-0 in the two previous meetings between the sides. A repeat of that scoreline’s priced at 20/1, while it’s 45/1 for PSG to go one better and bag seven without reply. Caen will look to do their best to contain their hosts’ attacking luminaries, and if you fancy them to manage that daunting task the 0-0 draw could be an option at 60/1.
One to watch for PSG: Cavani scored four goals in PSG’s first game against Caen last season. He’s 2/1 to open the scoring on Wednesday, and 5/1 to net a hat-trick.
One to watch for Caen: Rodelin scored one of the most memorable goals of his career to secure Caen’s top flight status last term. He’s 13/2 to score anytime, and 25/1 to bag first.
Long shot: After his superb performance against Caen last season, it’d be some feat if Cavani writes the same script this time round. But if the Uruguayan scores first again with PSG going on to win 6-0, you can get odds of 40/1.
