Parma v Juventus Predictions and Preview
Parma’s return to the big time resulted in a very respectable 14th place finish last term. The Gialloblu’s primary objective was to maintain their top flight status and this was secured relatively comfortably despite their final points tally.
Roberto D’Aversa’s troops will hold no feat when the champions come to town and were unfortunate not to claim something from the first meeting in September. Parma ultimately lost 2-1 but gave Juventus real problems throughout the encounter with Gervinho a constant menace.
The Ivorian developed a good understanding with Roberto Inglese as the duo contributed almost half of Parma’s total goal output. The former Arsenal speedster struck three times in two appearances against the Scudetto holders and is an attractive 12/1 to open proceedings on Saturday. The Gialloblu are 9/1 to stun the visitors and 4/1 to earn a draw.
Elsewhere, Maurizio Sarri takes charge of his first competitive match as Juventus boss. The former Napoli and Chelsea tactician replaced Max Allegri in the dugout and is likely to go with a 4-3-3 setup. Sarri has a plethora of options in midfield, with seven central-midfielders at his disposal with main man Cristiano Ronaldo leading the attack. Ronaldo is 21/20 to score first and 11/5 to hit two or more.
The Portugal skipper is expected to be flanked by Douglas Costa and Federico Bernardeschi with Paulo Dybala on the sidelines. The South American’s future has been the subject of intense scrutiny with PSG a potential destination if Neymar rejoins Barcelona. The Bianconeri are 1/3 to register a win.
One to watch for Parma: Roberto Inglese averaged a goal every three appearances in 2018-19 and is more than just a physical presence. The Italian is 11/4 to bag anytime.
One to watch for Juventus: De Ligt contributed seven strikes to Ajax’s mighty goal haul last year and is an asset in both boxes. The prodigious talent is 13/2 to net on debut.
Long shot: Under Sarri’s regime, Juventus will play a more expansive brand of football, and this should suit the likes of Rabiot, Ramsey, Pjanic, Costa and certainly Ronaldo. The Real Madrid legend remains hungry to deliver at the highest level and will be determined to better his modest 28 goal tally. A 3-0 victory for the Bianconeri is available at 7/1.
