Parma v Napoli Predictions and Preview

Fabio Liverani replaced D’Aversa after three years at Lecce. The Rome native failed to keep his former side in Italy’s top flight but earned admirers and will be looking to build on his predecessor’s fine work.

Pleasingly for Liverani, the Crociati were able to hold on to star strikers Andreas Cornelius and Roberto Inglese. The Dane played struck on 12 occasions and also provided three assists and is loving life in Parma after difficult spells at Bordeaux, Atalanta and Cardiff City.

The 6ft 5in hitman is 11/4 to notch anytime while his partner is 7/2 in the same betting. Inglese was on the books of Napoli but failed to make a single appearance for the first-team and will be keen to make a mark on proceedings. Parma are 15/4 to emerge triumphant and 3/1 to claim a draw.

The Azzurri remain locked in negotiations with Manchester City for giant defender Kalidou Koulibaly. The Senegalese stopper is expected to leave San Paolo alongside Arek Milik with Aurelio De Laurentiis keen to balance the books following the capture of Victor Osimhen.

The Lille hotshot broke the transfer record previously held by Hirving Lozano and cost Napoli in excess of €60m. Osimhen will join all-time top scorer Mertens and Insigne upfront and there is understandable excitement around the Nigerian. Osimhen was strongly linked to Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Spurs and is 13/5 favourite to break the deadlock.

There is real competition for places in the Azzurri forward places with Lozano and Andrea Petagna initially in reserve. The Mexican winger has worked himself back in to contention after a tough debut campaign while Petagna is in a similar mould to Milik. The ex-Sassuolo ace should get a run out in the closing stages and is 7/2 to get the final goal. Napoli are 8/13 to come away with the spoils.

One to watch for Parma: Gervinho is being tracked by Inter but is set to start the campaign with the Emilia-Romagna outfit. The Ivorian winger may struggle for consistency but is unplayable when at his best and is 11/1 to score last.

One to watch for Napoli: Fabian Ruiz has licence to support the attack with Diego Demme and Stanislav Lobotka more defensively minded. The silky Spaniard is 11/4 to bag anytime.

Long shot: Parma only kept five clean sheets last season and lost 10 of their 19 matches on home soil. The Crociati had no trouble finding the net, but shipped 57 efforts and will be severely tested by Napoli’s dangerous attack. A 3-2 success in favour of the Azzurri is 20/1.
