Italy’s rebuilding process continues with a trip to the Silesian Stadium to face Poland on Sunday night. Things haven’t exactly been going well for the Azzurri as of late, while the Poles have had a forgettable year too.

Where and when: Silesian Stadium – 14 October, kick-off 19:45

Where you can see Poland vs. Italy: Sky Sports, William Hill live streaming

Last time: Jorginho rescued a point for Italy with a late penalty in their home game against Poland, as the game in Bologna finished 1-1.

Poland v Italy Predictions and Preview

Italy have only won one of their eight matches since failing to qualify for the World Cup, which was a 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia at home. Poland did make it to Russia, but they were hugely disappointing in the summer showpiece, and only came to life in their final group game once they’d already been eliminated.

Roberto Mancini has a big job on his hands to restore Italy to the top of the European game ahead of Euro 2020. Just one win in their last 10 matches, and one point from their opening two Nations League fixtures. The Azzurri could only manage a 1-1 at home to Poland in their first game in this tournament, and lost 1-0 in Portugal a few days later.

Italy are 31/20 for the win here, so they’re the slight favourites despite their awful form, and the fact that they’re the away side. Poland are 19/10, while the draw’s available at 11/5. The bookmakers have it quite close in all, which is an indictment of two teams who are struggling badly for form.

The Poles slumped to defeats against Senegal and Colombia at the World Cup before beating Japan 1-0 in their last fixture, with star man Robert Lewandowski failing to find the target. The Eagles haven’t won any of their three matches since competing in Russia, with a 1-1 draw at home to the Republic of Ireland and a 3-2 defeat against Portugal following their decent draw in Italy.

This game looks set to be a tight one, despite the goal glut in Poland’s game against the Portuguese on Thursday night. None of Italy’s last four games have produced more than two goals, while Thursday’s match was the only one of Poland’s last four to do so. An under 2.5 goals bet here looks like a solid prediction at 8/13.

One to watch for Poland: Robert Lewandowski won his 100th international cap against Portugal, although he failed to hit the back of the net. He has 55 goals for his country, and is 7/2 to add to that with the opening goal of the game on Sunday.

One to watch for Italy: Ciro Immobile has been on a rampage since joining Lazio in 2016, netting 73 goals in 98 appearances for the Roman club. He has five in eight in Serie so far this season, and he’s 27/5 to score first here.

Long shot: Italy won 2-0 on their last visit to Poland, which was back in 2011. Any victory would be a major boost for the Azzurri, and that scoreline is priced at 23/2 here.
