Portugal v Croatia Predictions and Preview
This international friendly is seen for both sides as useful preparation for the commencement of the UEFA Nations League campaign.
Portugal will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing summer which saw them exit at the last 16 stage with a 2-1 defeat to Uruguay.
Croatia’s summer in Russia was more successful, reaching their first ever World Cup final before going down 4-2 to France in an entertaining showpiece.
The home side are slight favourites to win this encounter at odds of 6/4, with Croatia priced at 2/1 with the draw available at 28/13.
This could be a cagey affair with neither side likely to show much fluency in attack and both sides may need patience. Under 2.5 goals is available at 8/15 while fewer than 1.5 goals is at 13/8.
However, despite both sides did not find goals a major issue at the World Cup, over 2.5 goals is priced at 11/8, which does not appear to offer strong value.
A ‘double chance’ on Croatia to battle their way to either a draw or a win is available at 8/15 (Bet Victor) while a Portugal win/draw outcome is at 1/3.
If you fancy the home side to be leading at both half-time and at the final whistle, such odds are available at 16/5.
One to watch for Portugal: With no Cristiano Ronaldo in the squad, Andre Silva is the new top scorer (12 in 26 appearances). The striker netted a hat-trick on his Sevilla debut and is 27/11 (888 Sport) to score anytime here.
One to watch for Croatia: Ivan Perisic, who has scored 21 goals for the nation, is Croatia’s main goalscoring threat and is available at 31/10 to find the net here.
Long shot: International matches tend to be cagey affairs and Fernando Santos’s Portugal tend to sway towards conservative tactics. Odds of this game to finish scoreless are available at 7/1.
