PSV vs. FC Midtjylland Predictions and Preview
PSV Eindhoven enter the two-legged tie against FC Midtjylland as heavy favorites to progress to the final round of the Champions League qualification. However, the Red and Whites need to go past a tough FC Midtjylland side that pulled of one of the major upsets so far after eliminating Celtic.
The Dutch vice-champions prepare to host Midtjylland on the back of some impressive form. PSV Eindhoven scored seven goals over the two legs against Galatasaray and are on an unbeaten streak of 13 games. Roger Schmidt’s men seem to be scoring for fun, as they failed to find the back of the net in just one game during this stretch.
The Red and Whites were particularly impressive in the first leg against the Galatasaray at home, as the 5-1 victory saw Eran Zahavi score a hat-trick, while Mario Gotze netted a brace. PSV are particularly impressive when playing at the Philips Stadium, as their last defeat there dates from January when they lost to AZ Alkmaar.

FC Midtjylland, meanwhile, secured their qualification in a dramatic fashion after defeating Celtic by 2-1 at the MCH Arena. The Danes were trailing, as the Scottish side opened the score in the beginning of the second half but Awer Mabil scored in the 63-rd minute before Raphael Nwadike’s winner sent the home fans into delirium.
Midtjylland had earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Celtic in the first leg and are starting to find their rhythm as the Danish Superliga has already started. Brian Priske lost their first domestic game, but won the second one and will be on the wings of enthusiasm after their success against Celtic.
However, PSV are extremely convincing at home and seem to be on another level, so repeating their heroics from the Celtic clash would be extremely hard for the Danes.
One to watch for PSV: Eran Zahavi netted a hattrick in the 5-1 victory against Galatasaray at the Philips Stadium. The Israeli scored 14 times for PSV last term and has been in fine form this summer, so it’s worth to keep an eye on him look in the first scorer market.
One to watch for FC Midtjylland: 23-year-old midfielder Evander has been instrumental for the Danish side in the last few seasons. The Brazilian has the ability to dictate the tempo in the middle of the park and scored a stunning free-kick in the first leg against Celtic, so he can also be an interesting option in the first scorer market.
Long shot: PSV won their last home game against Galatasaray by 5-1. A repeat of that score against FC Midtjylland is priced at 50/1, so it surely is a very tempting option if you are looking for big odds.
