Rangers v Kilmarnock Predictions and Preview

It was a familiar story for Gerrard in the previous gameweek. A criticism often levelled at Rangers last term was their inability to unlock a stubborn defence and the Liverpool legend was not happy.

The Light Blues spurned the opportunity to extend their advantage over bitter rivals Celtic and Gerrard could ring the changes this weekend.

Ianis Hagi was ineffectual and will make way for Joe Aribo provided the former Charlton ace shakes off an ankle knock. The playmaker was missed at Tony Macaroni Arena and is 15/2 to strike first.

Frontman Alfredo Morelos also had a poor afternoon. The Colombian missed out on a move to Lille and there was great relief in the Rangers camp when the Ligue 1 outfit diverted their attention to Jonathan David. Gerrard expected his star striker to knuckle down and refocus but Morelos is not performing nowhere near his regular level.

The fan favourite will be afforded another opportunity despite the competition for places in attack and is 23/10 to break the deadlock. Jermain Defoe is still on the treatment table after suffering a setback from a hamstring strain. The veteran has yet to feature this campaign and is a fortnight away from a first-team return.

New boy Cedric Itten has been backed by old Gers full-back Arthur Numan to be a success at the club. The £2m acquisition from St Gallen has shown flashes in his two cameos and is 13/5 to net last.

Itten will provide the physical presence that Morelos and Defoe lack and give Rangers a new dimension. The Light Blues are 13/8 to claim the spoils.

The visitors held Celtic to a credible draw earlier in the month and will be hoping to contain Rangers in the same manner. Killie are a whopping 20/1 to pull off a shock result and the draw is 6/1.

One to watch for Rangers: James Tavernier has contributed 17 goals and 21 assists over the last 24 months from right-back and is an attractive 9/1 to bag the last effort.

One to watch for Kilmarnock: Brophy averaged one in three last season and is 11/1 to repeat his February exploits. The Glaswegian will be vital to Killie’s hopes of a midtable finish.

Long shot: While Gerrard was visibly irritated during the encounter with Livingston, the English coach will hope it was a one off and not a continuation of the previous term. The Liverpudlian only had Morelos and Defoe to call upon in the forward positions but now has options and variety at his disposal. With the arrival of Itten and Roofe, Gers can not only rotate, but also play a different way. A 4-0 success is 9/1.
