Real Betis v Real Madrid Predictions and Preview

It was an incredibly underwhelming opening to the defence of their La Liga crown for Real Madrid last weekend, while Real Betis have started the new campaign with a bang. Will that momentum have any effect on the outcome of this fixture, or will Madrid’s superior quality come to the fore?

Betis supporters will certainly hope not, as they cheer on their team from afar towards a potential hat-trick of victories to open the season. Manuel Pellegrini took charge of Los Verdiblancos in July, and has begun his reign with a 1-0 away win at Alaves, followed by a 2-0 home success against Real Valladolid.

It doesn’t get much better than two wins and two clean sheets from their first two games of the season, unless Betis can maintain their 100% record against the best team in the league. Madrid looked far from that last weekend though, as they toiled in a goalless draw away to Real Sociedad.

Los Blancos looked pretty toothless going forward, while the quality of their bench was indicative of some of their issues at the beginning of this campaign. Eden Hazard could be fit for this game though, with the Belgian’s weight and fitness under intense scrutiny once again.

Gareth Bale, meanwhile, has finally left the club, and is no longer an option or a distraction for Zidane. Martin Odegaard was given a chance last weekend some five years after his last La Liga appearance for Madrid, and the Norwegian will hope for another opportunity to stake his claim here.

This isn’t a Madrid side packed with searing quality or big names, while the club’s also struggling to come up with the funds to strengthen their squad due to the restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic. They don’t have the same issues as over at Barcelona though, while the visitors are the strong favourites for the win in this game.

Madrid are odds on to claim their first victory of the new campaign, priced at 5/6 in the latest odds. The hosts could end up being decent value at 13/4 in your latest Real Betis vs Real Madrid predictions, especially as Los Verdiblancos are unbeaten in their last three games against the capital club, winning twice. Meanwhile, you can back the draw on Saturday night at 3/1 with William Hill

One to watch for Real Betis: Veteran Joaquin is still going strong at the age of 39, starting both of Betis’s fixtures so far this season after netting 10 goals in 36 games in all competitions last term. The Verdiblancos skipper is 23/2 to open his account for the new campaign by grabbing the opener here.

One to watch for Real Madrid: Karim Benzema is also classed as a veteran these days, with the 32-year-old Frenchman now in his 12th season with Madrid. Only Lionel Messi scored more goals than him last term, and Zidane needs his compatriot to start firing this time round. Benzema is 4/1 to do so by breaking the deadlock on Saturday.

Long shot: Betis are yet to concede this season and have won two of their last three games against Madrid, scoring exactly two goals on both occasions. Madrid, meanwhile, have only scored once in their last three against Los Verdiblancos. The visitors look a little light in attack at present, with Betis 25/1 to win this match 2-0. Those odds rise to a massive 230/1 if you add Borja Iglesias as the first goalscorer.
