Real Madrid vs. Alaves La Liga Betting Tips and Preview

Real Madrid vs. Alaves, La Liga

Real Madrid need a victory to get back on track, as they welcome Alaves to the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano this weekend. The La Liga champions have failed to win either of their last two league games, but they do have a good record against Los Babazorros coming into this match.

Where and when: Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano – 29 November, kick-off 20:00

Last time: Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio struck early in each half to hand Real Madrid a 2-0 victory over Alaves on this ground in July.

Real Madrid v Alaves Predictions and Preview

Real Madrid have won 14 of their last 16 games against Deportivo Alaves, only losing once. Los Blancos are looking for their fourth straight victory over Los Babazorros on Saturday night, while also aiming to maintain their 20-year unbeaten record against El Glorioso on home soil.

Zinedine Zidane’s side have been far from their best so far this term, failing to bounce back from their humiliating 4-1 defeat against Valencia after drawing 1-1 with Villarreal on Saturday. Real’s preparations for this game are impacted by their trip to Milan to face Inter in the Champions League on Wednesday night, but this is a fixture which has been very kind to the champions over the years.

The hosts are the 4/11 favourites in this Real Madrid v Alaves preview, as they go in search of their sixth La Liga victory of the season in their 10th game. Zidane will be missing captain Sergio Ramos though, while Karim Benzema, Luka Jovic and Federico Valverde could all miss out too. Manu Garcia is the only player unavailable for the visitors, following a positive coronavirus test.

Even so, picking up a win away to Madrid is a tall order for Alaves. It may not be a packed Bernabeu, but Los Babazorros haven’t tasted victory away against Los Blancos in two decades. Down in 15th after playing 10 times so far this term, it doesn’t look like Pablo Machin’s side are capable of changing that particular sequence this weekend.

The away team are 9/1 for the upset, although a draw would still be seen as something of a victory for Alaves. There hasn’t been a stalemate between these clubs in almost 20 years, with Madrid winning 12 of their 13 meetings since the last one, but a draw on Saturday is priced at 23/5. That would surely seem more likely than an away win if you do fancy the shock.

One to watch for Real Madrid: Now is really the time for Eden Hazard to step up and show that he is a Real Madrid player. Plagued by injury and most recently illness following a bout of Covid-19, the Belgian is 24/5 to get himself the opener on Saturday night.

One to watch for Alaves: Lucas Perez is Alaves’ top scorer so far this season after netting twice in his first eight La Liga appearances of the campaign. Both of those goals have come in his team’s last two games, with Perez priced at 10/1 to continue his good run by breaking the deadlock in these Real Madrid v Alaves predictions.

Long shot: Real beat Alaves 2-0 in last season’s corresponding fixture, which came as recently as July in an empty Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano. Los Blancos are 13/2 to repeat that result here, rising to 40/1 if you include Hazard as the first scorer.
