Real Madrid vs. Barcelona Predictions and Preview

Real Madrid had been beginning to harbour hopes of a La Liga title push having won five matches in a row before falling to a home defeat to Girona a fortnight ago, before last week’s win at Levante.

Those victories have included wins over Real Betis, Sevilla and Espanyol and most notably of all, a 3-1 win at Atletico Madrid, but have now once again fallen behind their city rivals into third.

Barcelona have recovered form after winning just three La Liga games in nine attempts by winning 10 of their last 12, with a 4-2 win at Sevilla last time out.

They have kept eight clean sheets in their last 12 matches as they have reinforced their chances of winning a fourth La Liga title in five seasons and are now six points clear at the top of La Liga.

Unsurprisingly, the visitors are slight favourites for this encounter at odds of 6/4 with a Madrid victory priced at 8/5 and the draw available at 11/4.

These fixtures tend to produce a lot of goals with 15 going in across the most recent four meetings, so over 3.5 goals at 13/10 appears to be a solid bet with over 4.5 at 3/1.

A ‘double chance’ on Madrid to come away with either a draw or a win is available at 1/2 while a Barca win/draw outcome is at 1/2.

If you fancy the away side to be leading at both half-time and at the final whistle, such odds are available at 16/5 while Barca to win both halves is at 7/1.

Latest Form

One to watch for Real Madrid: Karim Benzema already has 20 goals to his name this season including 11 in La Liga, and he is at 8/5 to score in this fixture.

One to watch for Barcelona: Lionel Messi is now up to 32 goals for the campaign as he continues his devastating goalscoring form. He should be back to full fitness following a thigh injury and is at 27/25 to score here.

Long shot: Barcelona have eight clean sheets from their last 12 while Madrid have not convinced in recent weeks, even when winning. Odds of this game to finish scoreless are at 25/1.
