Thomas Tuchel has already stated that there is no way back into this Champions League quarter final tie for Chelsea after the 3-1 first leg defeat. But surely the Premier League side cannot be as poor again? It looks like Real Madrid’s tie to lose – but the result of this game is far from guaranteed.

Last time: Real Madrid beat Chelsea for the first time ever last week thanks to a Karim Benzema hat-trick and now have the semi finals in their sights.

Real Madrid vs. Chelsea Predictions and Preview

There had been questions over this ageing Real Madrid side, especially after the humiliating 4-0 home defeat to bitter rivals Barcelona in the recent El Clásico. But it was Chelsea that was undone in the first leg. They had also recently conceded four goals at home – in a local derby against Brentford – but the Premier League side didn’t look as if they had learned anything from that result.

Time and time again the Chelsea defence was exposed and breached by a Real Madrid team that took complete control of the tie early on. There was no reply to the through balls of Modrić and Kroos – and the speed of Vinícius Júnior. Then there were the goals of Karim Benzema.

The French striker had scored three against PSG in the previous round and added another hat-trick at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea now need at least a two-goal margin of victory to go through.

Real Madrid vs. Chelsea full time result odds

If both teams can get through their domestic games at the weekend unscathed, there will be no fresh injury worries for either head coach to deal with. But Tuchel needs to work out how to combat a vastly experienced Real Madrid midfield trio. That’s before a defensive improvement needed to stop Benzema continue his goal spree. Chelsea do need to win though, so this may not end in a home win. The draw at 12/5 looks better value.

Real Madrid vs. Chelsea both teams to score odds

Both teams have scored a lot of goals this season, while conceding relatively few in the process. But as a second leg of a quarter final tie, this game will not be played as usual. Chelsea need to score – and have the firepower to do that. Real Madrid might be tempted to sit back, but Ancelotti will know that a goal would just about kill off this tie. Both teams to score is priced at 7/10.

Real Madrid vs. Chelsea correct score odds

If Real Madrid do manage to score the first goal, this game could escalate very quickly as Chelsea’s desperation dictates the tempo. But if the Premier League club grab a vital goal early on, a different set of tactics will take over. It seems as though Chelsea’s task is just too difficult for them to progress and a 1-1 finish, priced at 11/2, looks like a good way to go here.

Real Madrid vs. Chelsea first goalscorer odds

After his displays in the last two Champions League games, it is understandable that Karim Benzema is the favourite to open the scoring on Tuesday. But with Chelsea chasing the game it could be the away side that strikes first. Romelu Lukaku is fancied but is enduring a miserable time at the moment and it could be someone like Kai Havertz or Mason Mount that is the first to find the net.
