Last time: Surprisingly, these two clubs haven’t crossed paths since the 1998/99 season, when both teams won their home game in the Champions League group stages. Goalscorers across the two matches included the likes of Roberto Baggio, Ivan Zamarano, Clarence Seedorf and Fernando Hierro.

Real Madrid v Inter Predictions and Preview

A lot’s changed for both Real Madrid and Inter since they last locked horns. Los Blancos have won the Champions League an incredible seven times since that 1998 double-header, as the La Liga side have remained at the forefront of the European elite. Inter’s status as a continental heavyweight has ebbed and flowed, although the Nerazzurri were crowned kings of Europe in 2010.

Both teams have their issues right now, with Madrid suffering from a below-par start to the season – despite their Clasico victory over Barcelona the other weekend. Zinedine Zidane’s side have never failed to get out of the group stages of the Champions League, but that record looks set to be tested after only picking up a single point from their first two fixtures.

Los Blancos were dreadful for the majority of their 3-2 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk, before they rescued a late point at Borussia Monchengladbach following two goals in the last couple of minutes. The Spanish champions were equally abject in Germany, against a team Inter also drew 2-2 with in their opening Group B fixture.

Antonio Conte’s side followed that up with a goalless draw against Shakhtar, with the Ukrainian outfit the surprise leaders in the early stages of this section. With Real and Inter taking points off each other over the course of the next two matches, there’s a chance they could be left squabbling over who finishes as runners-up to Donetsk.

A first European win of the season in this game would be massive for either side, and Madrid are the 15/14 favourites to get it. The 13-time European champions have Eden Hazard back available after an injury-hit start to the season, although they’ll be without Dani Carvajal and Martin Odegaard here.

The visitors, meanwhile, are set to be missing Matias Vecino for these Real Madrid v Inter predictions. Alexis Sanchez is also likely to miss out due to a positive Covid-19 test, while Stefano Sensi is another injury doubt. The Nerazzurri are 5/2 for the win, while you can back the draw on Tuesday night at 3/1

One to watch for Real Madrid: Karim Benzema sparked Real’s late comeback in their last match, but all eyes will be on his link-up play with Vinicius Junior after his criticism of the young Brazilian in the tunnel at half-time of Madrid’s game at Gladbach last Tuesday.

One to watch for Inter: Romelu Lukaku hit a brace against Gladbach in Inter’s opener and has been banging in the goals in Serie A too. Criticism is often levelled at the big Belgian for his lack of goals against the toughest opposition, so this game gives him the perfect chance to silence his doubters.

Long shot: Neither of these teams has won in Europe yet this season, while both drew 2-2 in their games against Bundesliga outfit Gladbach. Another 2-2 draw in this one is priced at 11/1, while you could enhance your odds on that scoreline by adding Lukaku to break the deadlock, with Real having to coming from behind once again.
