Real Madrid vs. Leganes La Liga Betting Tips and Preview

Real Madrid Bernabeu

Real Madrid will look to continue their 100% winning start in La Liga under new boss Julen Lopetegui as they host Leganes in a Madrid derby on Saturday night. The hosts are strong favourites to win the clash but Lega eliminated their city neighbours in last season’s Copa del Rey.

Last time: Real Madrid edged out 10-man Leganes 2-1 at the Bernabéu back in April with Gareth Bale and Borja Mayoral on the scoresheet. However, a 2-1 victory at the same stadium in a Copa match in January brought Lega’s first ever victory over Madrid.

Real Madrid vs. Leganes Predictions and Preview

Despite a European Super Cup defeat to Atletico Madrid, Julen Lopetegui has made it two wins from two in La Liga as they top the fledgling table on goal difference.

Whilst the European champions have beaten Getafe and Girona, Lega have gained one point from their two matches against Basque opponents.

Mauricio Pellegrino’s side lost to a last-minute Athletic Bilbao winner in the opening round of fixtures before coming from two goals down to earn a draw against Real Sociedad.

However, the European champions are favourites to win this tie at odds of 1/7, while a surprise away win is priced at 16/1 with the draw available at 13/2.

Leganes will hope their defensive resilience and disciplined tactics can frustrate Madrid – for whom goals may be a concern this season. Under 2.5 goals – a repeat of Madrid’s opening day win over Getafe – is available at 2/1 while fewer than 1.5 goals is at 11/2.

However, Madrid have netted eight goals in three games while Leganes have returned three in two matches, so over 2.5 goals may appear to offer value at 2/5 – although the nature of this game makes this unlikely.

A ‘double chance’ on Leganes to battle their way to either a draw or a win is available at 13/2 while a Real Madrid win/draw outcome is at 1/33.

If you fancy the visitors to be leading at both half-time and at the final whistle, such odds are available at 6/17 while they are priced at 4/7 to win to nil.

One to watch for Real Madrid: Gareth Bale has nine goals in his last eight nine for Madrid including in the league victories over Getafe and Girona. He is now the club’s main source of goals.

One to watch for Leganes: 32-year-old Moroccan Nabil El Zhar, formerly of Liverpool, netted twice in Friday’s draw with Real Sociedad and looked lively throughout.

Long shot: Leganes will look to defend rigidly throughout the game and minimise any chances for the hosts while Madrid no longer have Cristiano Ronaldo, with doubts that a lack of a cutting edge may cost them this campaign. A scoreless draw in this game is available at odds of 34/1.
