Real Madrid v Villarreal Predictions and Preview

Zinedine Zidane will take charge of his final game as Real boss. The World Cup winner is reportedly at the top of Andrea Agnelli’s list to replace Andrea Pirlo and has never hidden his affection for Juventus.

In the meantime, all focus is on beating Villarreal, but Zidane will have to make do without Toni Kroos. The midfielder tested positive for COVID-19 and his calmness will be sorely missed if Los Blancos are feeling the pressure.

Luka Modric and Casemiro will be joined by Federico Valverde in the middle of the park and the duo have never let Madrid down. Despite featuring in more defensive roles, the two world class performers have contributed 12 goals and 11 assists between them.

Benzema has not featured for Les Bleus since 2016 and France are now undoubtedly the favourites for the competition. The 33-year-old is 11/4 to break the deadlock and Marco Asensio is available at 11/2. Eden Hazard is battling for his future at the club and is 17/10 to register anytime. Real are 4/9 to emerge triumphant.

Travelling party Villarreal thumped Sevilla 4-0 in the previous gameweek. Carlos Bacca claimed a treble and Unai Emery has a welcome selection dilemma on his hands with the Europa League final only days away. Bacca is 11/1 to open proceedings and team-mate Paco Alcacer can be found at 8/1.

Pau Torres is on Manchester United, Napoli, Barcelona, and, indeed, Real’s radar, and the centre-half’s battle with Benzema will be a fascinating watch. Villarreal are 11/2 to spoil the party and a draw is 15/4.

One to watch for Real Madrid: Vinicius has made the most appearances for Los Blancos this season and a big performance is required from the young winger. The Rio native is 6/1 to notch last.

One to watch for Villarreal: 29-goal Moreno won’t be risked but should appear after the break. Spain’s leading attacker is 8/1 in the same market.

Long shot: Expect wholesale changes from Villarreal with Europa League glory, and guaranteed Champions League football in the process, the main priority. The Yellow Submarine will still pose a decent threat but Real should run out comfortable winners against a weakened eleven. A 4-0 away success is 19/1.
