Sampdoria v Inter Predictions and Preview
It has been a dismal start to life as Sampdoria boss for Di Francesco. The former Roma tactician has chopped and changed his line-up and the departures of Joachim Andersen and Dennis Praet have hurt the Ligurian outfit.
Di Francesco has gone with a 3-4-2-1 formation with Manolo Gabbiadini spearheading the attack. Last season’s Serie A top scorer Fabio Quagliarella has started four of the five games to date but was left on the bench in the 2-1 defeat against Fiorentina on Wednesday.
The evergreen forward’s schedule is likely to include regular spells out of the side but Doria are desperate for a lift and the 36-year-old is expected to feature. Quagliarella, known for the spectacular, is 7/4 to net anytime, while Gabbiadini is 10/1 to score first. Samp are 19/4 to claim a much-needed victory and 13/5 to pick up a point.
Visitors Inter are in ominous mood after a satisfying five days. The Nerazzurri toppled Milan, before squeezing past Lazio and Antonio Conte will be delighted with how his men are performing. Romelu Lukaku did not get on the scoresheet against the Aquile but is the 15/4 favourite to open proceedings.
The Belgian has settled in seamlessly after moving from Manchester United and has three goals to his name. Stefano Sensi was rested for the tie with Lazio but will go straight back in to the starting eleven in an advanced midfield role.
One to watch for Sampdoria: Inter youth graduate Federico Bonazzoli has one goal from two appearances for Doria and will be on the bench at the very least. The striker is 11/1 in the final scorer market.
One to watch for Inter: With Alexis Sanchez still searching for fitness, Lautaro Martínez will be presented with another opportunity to cement his place as Lukaku’s strike partner. The South American is 5/1 to net last.
Long shot: Alongside SPAL and Lecce, Samp have shipped the most efforts in the division and this will be of great concern for Di Francesco. The Italian was heavily criticised last year as Roma leaked an uncharacteristic number of goals and a similar pattern has emerged at his new club. A comprehensive 4-0 success for Inter is 25/1.
