Serie A champions Inter Milan are looking to return from the international break with three points towards their title defence away to Sampdoria. The Nerazzurri enjoyed a big win against the Blucerchiati the last time the clubs met, but there’s still cause for optimism for the hosts in this Sampdoria v Inter preview.
Where and when: Stadio Luigi Ferraris – 12 September, kick-off 11:30
Where you can see Sampdoria vs. Inter: BT Sport
Last time: Roberto Gagliardini, Alexis Sanchez (2), Andrea Pinamonti and Lautaro Martinez were all on target as Inter thrashed Sampdoria 5-1 at San Siro towards the end of last season.
Sampdoria v Inter Predictions and Preview
As one of only five teams to still have a 100% record after the first two rounds of Serie A fixtures in 2021-22, Inter Milan have made a strong start to their title defence. Sampdoria are without a win from their opening two matches, but they can take plenty of hope from last season’s corresponding fixture.
Antonio Candreva and Keita Balde were both on target as La Samp beat the Nerazzurri 2-1 at Marassi in early January. That should give Roberto D’Aversa something to work with as he bids to secure his first victory as Sampdoria coach, having seen his side lose 1-0 at home to AC Milan before a goalless draw away to Sassuolo just before the break.
However, the Nerazzurri have only lost one of their 24 games in Serie A since that defeat to Sampdoria, going down 3-2 away to Juventus in May after the Scudetto had already been wrapped up. Il Biscione have won 18 of those 24 matches, including that big victory over La Samp, with the champions beating Genoa 4-0 at home and Verona 3-1 away in the opening weeks of this season.

Inter to win and BTTS
Inter to win 3-1
Dzeko to score first
Simone Inzaghi has made a great start as he aims to continue Antonio Conte’s good work at San Siro, while Joaquin Correa has also made a superb start to life at Il Biscione following his move from Lazio in the summer. They may have Alexis Sanchez doubtful for this game along with Gabriel Brazao, but Inter are the clear favourites at 10/13 in the betting.
Sampdoria are 17/4 to pick up their first victory of the new season, and what a victory it would be. Inter have won seven of the last eight meetings between these clubs, scoring 21 goals in the process and conceding only six. Both teams have scored in each of the five most recent clashes between the clubs, with the same outcome here priced at 20/27.
Back in the outright market, the draw is available at 3/1 with William Hill in these Sampdoria v Inter predictions. The Blucerchiati are only likely to be without the services of striker Manolo Gabbiadini as they go in search of what would still be an encouraging result if they manage to get a draw against the champions.
One to watch for Sampdoria: Veteran forward Fabio Quagliarella is yet to get off the mark so far this season, but he managed 13 in 33 appearances last term and is 15/2 in the first goalscorer market on Sunday.
One to watch for Inter: Joaquin Correa came off the bench to score two goals and turn around the Nerazzurri’s game against Verona last time out. The Argentina international was on target for his country against Venezuela during the break and is 6/1 to net the opener here. He’s the same price in the last scorer market in case he has to settle for a place on the bench once again.
Long shot: Edin Dzeko will score goals this season for La Beneamata, having netted on his debut against Genoa. With the visitors priced at 12/1 to win 3-1 in these Sampdoria v Inter tips, you can add Dzeko to that bet for a 66/1 scorecast.
