It’s a shootout for second place as Schalke host Borussia Dortmund at the Veltins-Arena on Sunday. The Ruhr derby is always a feisty affair between two teams who have little love for each other, and this game could be another cracker after there were fireworks in the first meeting of the season between the pair.

Where and when: Veltins-Arena – 15 April, kick-off 14:30

Where you can see Schalke vs. Dortmund: BT Sport, William Hill live streaming

Last time: Dortmund were 4-0 up at half-time when the teams met at the Westfalenstadion in November, but Schalke mounted an incredible comeback in the second period to draw 4-4 courtesy of a 94th minute Naldo equaliser.

Schalke v Borussia Dortmund Predictions and Preview

One of European football’s biggest rivalries is set for another electric edition with Sunday’s 152nd Ruhr derby. Schalke have the upper hand historically, but haven’t beaten their fierce rivals for almost four years.

However, four of the six games since Die Konigsblauen’s last success have ended in a draw, while that remarkable comeback earlier this term no doubt felt like a victory for Domenico Tedesco’s side. In fact, each of the last four meetings have ended with honours even, and a fifth straight stalemate is priced at 13/5 in the betting.

Despite being the away side and trailing their hosts by a point in the Bundesliga table, Dortmund start the game as slight favourites in the betting. Peter Stoger’s side are priced at 17/10, while Schalke are available at 44/25.

The home team will be without Matija Nastasic as he serves a one-match ban after picking up a booking in Die Knappen’s defeat at Hamburg on Saturday. The visitors meanwhile could be without as many as seven players through injury, with Andre Schurrle and Shinji Kagawa the most notable absentees.

Dortmund put their 6-0 demolition at the hands of Bayern Munich behind them with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Stuttgart on Sunday, closing the gap to Schalke to just a single point after their rivals’ run of six straight victories came to an end at the Imtech Arena.

Defeat for either of these two sides could plunge them back into the grasp of Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen, who are all fighting for a place in the top four and Champions League qualification. With a lot more than just bragging rights on the line, we could be in for another treat at the weekend.

One to watch for Schalke: Guide Burgstaller has 10 Bundesliga goals to his name so far this season, and he’s priced at 13/2 to open the scoring on Sunday.

One to watch for Dortmund: Michy Batshuayi bagged his ninth goal in 13 games for Die Schwarzgelben last weekend, and he’s the 11/2 favourite to break the deadlock.

Long shot: If you fancy another goal fest, a repeat of that incredible 4-4 draw is priced at a massive 350/1, while an over 6.5 goals bet is 33/1. Go to over 7.5 goals and the odds increase to 80/1.
