Schalke vs. Werder Bremen Bundesliga Betting Tips and Preview

Only Eintracht Frankfurt have fared worse than Schalke from the last six rounds of action and the Royal Blues will need to dig deep against a spirited Werder Bremen on Saturday afternoon. The hosts have struggled to find the back of the net all campaign, but a previously sound defensive platform has come unstuck and there is significant – and justified, panic in the ranks.

Last time: Schalke survived a late scare to win 2-1 in the reverse fixture. Amine Harit and Benito Raman struck for the Royal Blues in late November.

Schalke v Werder Bremen Leverkusen Predictions and Preview

Speculation continues to surround the future of under-fire Schalke boss David Wagner. The former disciple of Jurgen Klopp during their time together at Borussia Dortmund is under significant pressure after a string of unacceptable results.

The German has seen his men humiliated in three of the last five matches and needs to put a run together before its too late.

The ex-Huddersfield Town tactician’s misery has been compounded further by the crushing loss of Suat Serdar, who sustained a season ending injury in the defeat against Augsburg. The 23-year-old is a holding midfielder by trade but is the Royal Blues’ top scorer and his absence is likely to cost any slim hopes of finishing in the European places.

Wagner has chopped and changed his lone striker on a weekly basis with Michael Gregoritsch, Guido Burgstaller and Raman all given opportunities to make the position their own.

Raman has recorded the best numbers of the trio and is expected to edge out his fellow forwards to feature from the opening whistle. The full Belgian international is 13/2 to open proceedings, while Rabbi Matondo is 3/1 in the anytime market. Schalke are 11/10 to clinch it and 5/2 to earn a draw.

Wagner’s opposite number Florian Kohfeldt will be encouraged by his squad’s recent performances. Bremen have collected four points from their last two games, lifting themselves from the foot of the table in the process.

There is still work to be done to ensure Die Werderaner avoid the drop and Liverpool target Milot Rashica will be integral. The Bosnian has 11 goal contributions to date and is 12/5 to register anytime, while Werder are 11/5 to chalk up the success at the final whistle.

One to watch for Schalke: The Royal Blues have yet to offer any real end product since the Bundesliga resumed play and there is an extra reliance on making set pieces count. Giant defender Salif Sané is 10/1 to score anytime.

One to watch for Werder Bremen: Davy Klaassen endured a torrid time at Everton before moving to Die Werderaner in 2018 and is 17/2 to notch the final effort of the showdown.

Long shot: Both clubs need a positive result, for contrasting reasons. Schalke may sit in 8th, but the Royal Blues are performing like a side in the relegation zone. Werder are five points adrift of genuine safety and the onus will be on the visitors to take charge of the duel. A closely fought, 2-1 outcome in favour of Bremen, is 12/1.
