Serbia v Portugal Predictions and Preview

Hosts Serbia are a danger on home soil, and have a host of star names in the ranks. The side will be led by evergreen Aleksandar Kolarov, who has started the domestic campaign superbly. The Roma full-back has netted in both the Lupi’s games and remains one of the continent’s best at set-pieces. Kolarov is an attractive 9/1 to score anytime.

In attack, it will be Mitrovic, new Real Madrid recruit Luka Jovic and Tadic, who will operate just off the duo. Jovic enjoyed a breakout year last term with Eintracht Frankfurt and is 6/1 to open proceedings, while strike partner Mitrovic, who will tussle it out with Jose Fonte and Ruben Dias, is 5/1 in the same betting.

The Eagles are backed at 13/5 to emerge triumphant and 21/10 to earn a point. Visitors Portugal currently sit in fourth, but typically leave it late in the group stages. The Seleção have quietly put together one of the strongest squads in world football with custodian Rui Patricio starring on a weekly basis in the Premier League.

Midfield is perhaps Portugal’s best area with Joao Moutinho, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Neves and William Carvalho battling it out for the three starting roles.

Inspirational skipper Cristiano Ronaldo will start and could be joined upfront by João Félix. The incredibly gifted 19-year-old has settled in seamlessly with new club Atletico Madrid and the youngster is 5/2 to bag anytime. UEFA Nations League winners Portugal are 23/20 to get a win on the board.

One to watch for Serbia: Tadic hit 34 goals in all competitions for Ajax last term and has started the present season in a similar vein. The playmaker is 3/1 to score anytime.

One to watch for Portugal: Bruno Fernandes also notched over 30 strikes in 2018-19 and is a real threat from distance. The Sporting Lisbon man is 9/1 to net the final effort of the contest.

Long shot: Portugal are no longer solely reliant on Ronaldo to deliver the goods as a golden generation begins to emerge. In Felix and Bernardo Silva, the Seleção have two extraordinary talents, and it is entirely plausible Ronaldo will get even more opportunities through on goal as his younger peers occupy the opponents’ thinking. A morale boosting 3-0 in favour of the travelling party is 20/1.
