Serbia v Portugal Predictions and Preview

Nikola Milenkovic will marshal the Eagles backline and his battle with Cristiano Ronaldo will have plenty of interested spectators. Inter, Manchester United, Tottenham and Milan are all admirers of the Fiorentina defender who looks set to depart Tuscany at the end of the campaign.

Serbia are extremely strong in the middle of the park with Dusan Tadic, Filip Kostic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Filip Djuricic all enjoying good seasons. The Lazio ace was valued at more than £100m two years ago and if the Aquile fail to finish in the Champions League places, the Spanish born midfielder could seek a move.

Milinkovic-Savic is 3/1 to bag anytime and Tadic can be found at 21/10. The skipper has contributed 21 goals and 16 assists for Ajax this term and will provide the ammunition for Luka Jović, Aleksandar Mitrović and Dusan Vlahović.

Jović is 13/2 to break the deadlock and Vlahović is 21/5 to register last. The burly hitman has only featured on four occasions for the Eagles but is primed to be the next breakout star out of Serbia with Jose Mourinho and Stefano Pioli keeping tabs on the Fiorentina striker. Dragan Stojković’s group are 15/4 to emerge triumphant and a draw is 11/4.

Ronaldo is 7/5 to open proceedings and is understandably excited by the current generation. The veteran has memorably scooped two trophies with the Seleção and will certainly be appearing in Qatar in 2022, pending qualification.

Fernandes is 11/4 to score first and Fernando Santos is backing the Manchester United talisman to replicate his domestic numbers internationally. The ex-Sporting Lisbon captain will have licence to support Ronaldo, Joao Felix and one of Diogo Jota or Bernardo Silva, who are contesting the final berth on the right. Jota and Bernardo Silva are 9/4 and 5/2, respectively, to net anytime and Portugal are 7/10 to come away with the spoils.

One to watch for Serbia: Mitrović has lost his place at club level and faces stern competition from Vlahović for his national jersey. The Fulham attacker is 9/4 to notch anytime.

One to watch for Portugal: Pedro Neto is the only orthodox winger in the latest squad and has been viewed as an alternative to Jadon Sancho for Manchester United. The Wolves speedster is 9/2 to hit the final effort.

Long shot: Portugal have relied heavily on Ronaldo since his senior debut in 2003 but now the Madeira native is sharing the burden with some of the game’s most talented performers. Ruben Dias is arguably the standout centre-half on the continent and Joao Cancelo has earned the plaudits under Pep Guardiola. Bruno Fernandes, Joao Felix, Bernardo Silva, Diogo Jota and Andre Silva all carry a significant goal threat and the Seleção will fancy themselves to retain their European title this summer. A 3-0 away success is 14/1.
