Serie A tips of the week: Atalanta and Milan on fire

Juventus vs. Atalanta, Serie A

Football Italia Editor Susy Campanale takes you through the best Serie A bets of the week…

Just when you think the Scudetto race is over, they drag you back in. Juventus, Lazio and Inter all suffered shock defeats over the last few days, allowing Atalanta to not just surge forward threatening second and third, but set up a fascinating clash with the leaders. A 10th consecutive victory would put them within six points of the Bianconeri and anything could still happen.

It was Milan who fought back from 2-0 down to defeat Juve and Stefano Pioli’s side visit Napoli next in a head-to-head for fifth place. Both love to score and struggle to defend, so there could be plenty of entertainment at the Stadio San Paolo. Meanwhile, unlucky Lazio are up against another on-form outfit in Sassuolo, there’s a tense Genoa-SPAL relegation battle and revitalised Lecce fly to Cagliari. There are many fixtures where it’s just too close to call in this unpredictable end to the campaign, so it’s about finding the value on the betting market.

Amazing Atalanta

Juventus vs. Atalanta – Saturday July 11, Allianz Juventus Stadium, Kick-off: 8.45pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

There are so many ways this could go down. Atalanta are on a run of nine consecutive victories, Juventus are fresh from a 4-2 defeat at Milan, a win would put La Dea within six points of the leaders. It’s too close to call.

What I can see is that Atalanta have curbed their free-scoring approach for something altogether more pragmatic, so with Matthijs de Ligt back in the Juve defence, I don’t feel comfortable tipping overs either. So let’s go for the guarantees, these are teams who pretty much always score and more often than not concede, even if Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have had two consecutive clean sheets for the first time this season.

Best bet for Juventus vs. Atalanta: Both teams to score at 8/15 on William Hill

Sassuolo can shock Lazio

Lazio vs. Sassuolo – Saturday July 11, Stadio Olimpico, Kick-off: 4.15pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

Lazio are left to rue what might’ve been, because the fact remains there are two different seasons in one – the campaign before and after the lockdown. The compressed schedule, five substitutions and approach to training are all proving negative for Simone Inzaghi’s thin side, who have now lost two on the trot.

On the other hand, Sassuolo have been spectacular since returning to action, Roberto De Zerbi transforming the Neroverdi into his Atalanta-style vision of attacking football. They’ve even started learning to defend, which is good for them, less for those of us who wanted to keep betting on the Overs. You could certainly go for Over 2.5 Goals here, but with Lazio misfiring so badly, Sassuolo deserve our faith.

Best bet for Lazio vs. Sassuolo: Sassuolo to win at 5/1 with Bet Victor

Gattuso out for revenge

Napoli vs. Milan – Sunday July 12, Stadio San Paolo, Kick-off: 8.45pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

This is another one of those big fixtures that are too close to call and the odds reflect that, so it’s about finding value as well as an outcome we can rely on. Gennaro Gattuso has got Napoli on a roll lately and is eager to beat his former club, who in turn are fresh from wins over Roma, Lazio and Juventus. It’s a head-to-head for fifth place, something Milan need considerably more, as the Partenopei have already qualified for the Europa League by winning the Coppa Italia.

So, the Rossoneri will be more motivated and their performances lately have shown great resilience as well as style. If there’s an early goal, then we could see a thriller at the San Paolo. Both Teams to Score is the safety bet, Over 3.5 Goals for a little more spice.

Best bet for Napoli vs. Milan: Over 3.5 Goals at 21/10 with Bet Victor
