Serie A tips of the week: Atalanta, excitement and an Olimpico draw

Hellas Verona and Atalanta club crests

Football Italia’s Susy Campanale takes you through the best Serie A bets of the week…

This column is about finding value on the betting markets, so I have decided to steer well clear of the biggest game of this round, Juventus vs. Lazio on Monday evening. The Bianconeri will probably win that without too much fuss and start celebrating the Scudetto early, but where’s the fun in that? Instead, let’s turn our focus on to the less headline-grabbing fixtures, which are more likely to generate a healthy profit for our beloved Calcio punters.

Atalanta continue their extraordinary campaign and should get even closer to the 100-goal mark in their trip to Hellas Verona, where Ivan Juric is the protégé of Gian Piero Gasperini and has a similar gung-ho approach to attacking. Roma’s change of tactics is working better for them than Inter, while Bologna should put up a fight against on-form Milan at San Siro, ditto for Udinese in Naples.

Got to be goals

Verona vs. Atalanta – Saturday July 18, Stadio Bentegodi, Kick-off: 4.15pm

Even casual Serie A viewers will be salivating at the idea of this game and frankly surprised that Over 4.5 Goals are available at these prices. Atalanta are the most prolific team in the division since 1951, before Gian Piero Gasperini was born, and Verona coach Ivan Juric is the protégé of the tactician currently preparing for a Champions League quarter-final with Paris Saint-Germain. These two teams have a very similar tactical approach, and while that could lead to them cancelling each other out, it’s far more likely to breed a goalfest.

Best bet for Verona vs. Atalanta: Over 4.5 Goals at 5/2 with William Hill

Tactical stalemate

Roma vs. Inter – Sunday July 19, Stadio Olimpico, Kick-off: 8.45pm

Paulo Fonseca’s switch to a three-man defence seems to have worked wonders with Roma, making them a more solid proposition, despite the obvious fatigue of having few players to rotate with. On the other hand, Inter are muddling along, somehow still in the Scudetto race, despite performances that have been less than impressive. Antonio Conte struggles when faced with a similar tactical set-up, while he is also having problems jamming club purchase Christian Eriksen into a team that simply isn’t suited to him. These two could really cancel each other out. Under 2.5 Goals is a decent shout too, but I’m going to go for the draw.

Best bet for Roma vs. Inter: Draw at 13/5 with William Hill

Milan keep moving

Milan vs. Bologna – Saturday July 18, Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Kick-off: 8.45pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

Milan are on a roll at the moment, enjoying the last embers of the Stefano Pioli era before it gets snuffed out by Ralf Rangnick. They are unbeaten since the restart, have found the net in each of their last 15 Serie A games and kept five clean sheets in the process. On recent form, though, their last three matches have all gone Over 3.5 Goals. Bologna have both scored and conceded in each of their last six outings and the pace of Musa Barrow can cause real problems for the Rossoneri defence. Tip Milan to win, but it’s not going to be plain sailing.

Best bet for Milan vs. Bologna: Over 3.5 Goals at 13/25 with William Hill
