Serie A tips of the week: Champions League places up for grabs

Lazio vs. Inter, Serie A

Football Italia Editor Susy Campanale takes you through the best Serie A bets of the week…

It’s a potentially decisive weekend in the Serie A season, as Lazio and Inter go head-to-head for the Scudetto, while Atalanta and Roma are in a straight duel for the fourth and final Champions League spot. Elsewhere, SPAL could regret sacking Leonardo Semplici ahead of their trip to on-form Lecce, plus a distinct lack of clean sheets in Bologna, Bergamo and Sassuolo.

Unexpected Scudetto showdown

Lazio vs. Inter – Sunday February 16, Stadio Olimpico, Kick-off: 7.45pm

Nobody thought we’d be going into Week 24 with Lazio sitting one point behind joint leaders Inter and Juventus. That makes this potentially one of the most decisive results in the whole Serie A season and the pressure is immense. It would be wonderful to see an open, attacking, entertaining clash, but the truth is these teams have the best defensive record in the division, are unbeaten in 18 and 16 rounds respectively and use fairly similar three-at-the-back systems which could cancel each other out. The last three competitive meetings provided a grand total of two goals in 90 minutes, so it’s going to be another tight one here.

Best bet for Lazio vs. Inter: Under 2.5 Goals 57/50 with 888 Sport

Atalanta entertainment

Atalanta vs. Roma – Saturday February 15, Gewiss Stadium, Kick-off: 7.45pm

Another absolutely massive fixture this weekend sees fourth and fifth go head-to-head. A home win would open up a huge six-point advantage for the Bergamo boys, a defeat see the Giallorossi catch them in that final Champions League slot.

Atalanta have all the momentum, the confidence, the form and the squad to get the job done. What a boost to receive just days before their historic Round of 16 encounter with Valencia.

It’s all about value, though, so what results are being underestimated? Atalanta to win with both teams to score at 37/20 are excellent odds. Also, Bryan Cristante’s ban means Gianluca Mancini will move into defence and shore things up a little, so I’m hesitant to go for Over 3.5 Goals, albeit at Evens.

Best bet for Atalanta vs. Roma: Atalanta to win and both teams to score 37/20 with 888 Sport

Lecce landslide

Lecce vs. SPAL – Saturday February 15, Stadio Via del Mare, Kick-off: 14.00pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

Lecce were always a better team than their results suggested and they have invested wisely in January, adding much-needed creativity with Riccardo Saponara and Antonin Barak. Gianluca Lapadula’s return to fitness has also allowed Fabio Liverani to dump the dismal Khouma Babacar and confidence is growing daily after wins over Torino and Napoli.

SPAL are rock bottom and fired coach Leonardo Semplici, the man who took them from Serie C to their first top flight campaign in 50 years, to bring in Gigi Di Biagio, who somehow wasted years of exceptional Italy Under-21 talent and stayed in the job far longer than warranted. Usually, there’s a new coach boost for teams, but SPAL adored Semplici and I wouldn’t bet against him getting recalled in a few weeks.

Best bet for Lecce vs. SPAL: Lecce to beat SPAL at 6/5 with Bet Victor
