Serie A tips of the week: Genoa to upset Napoli

Genoa and Napoli club crests

Football Italia’s Susy Campanale takes you through the best Serie A bets of the week…

For more than 20 years, Susy Campanale has been at the forefront of Italian football coverage for Football Italia. With a unique level of experience and expertise covering Serie A, Susy casts an expert eye across the latest round of action, exclusively with Eurotips.

We are seeing the first effects of the January transfer window and recent changes of management at Serie A clubs, which could tip the balance of the campaign going into the second half of the season. The teams near the bottom of the table have made the most adjustments, as it’s incredibly tight with many sides unexpectedly still in the thick of the relegation battle. Motivation also makes a big difference from here on in, as the battle lines are drawn between those who scrap for every Serie A point and the coaches rotating their squads for Coppa Italia or European commitments.

Genoa are an ideal example, transformed under Davide Ballardini and with mid-season reinforcements, they are ridiculously over-priced against a Napoli side struggling with injuries and between Coppa Italia semi-finals against Atalanta. Similarly, La Dea could find it tougher than expected against a Torino still unbeaten under new coach Davide Nicola.

Golden Genoa

Genoa vs. Napoli – Saturday February 6, Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Kick-off: 7.45pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

On current form, focus and fitness levels, there is no reason whatsoever why Napoli should be favourites against Genoa. The Grifone have lost only once in Serie A since Davide Ballardini took over, they are on home turf, kept four consecutive league clean sheets and Mattia Destro is in the form of his career. Rino Gattuso is short-staffed in attack, players are tired and the concentration will inevitably be on Wednesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final with Atalanta.

Best bet for Genoa vs. Napoli: Genoa to win at 9/2 with Bet Victor

Aquile on song

Lazio vs. Cagliari – Sunday February 7, Stadio Olimpico, Kick-off: 7.45pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

Simone Inzaghi’s men are fired up following five consecutive Serie A victories and celebrated the 3-1 away to Atalanta as if they’d won the Scudetto. Coppa Italia exit aside, this is a team feeling the joy and surging up the standings towards the top four. Cagliari deserve credit for putting their faith in Eusebio Di Francesco, and made good signings in January, but they still look so disjointed and could get blown away here.

Best bet for Lazio vs. Cagliari: Lazio to win and Over 3.5 Goals at 2/1 on Bet Victor

No De Paul, No Party

Udinese vs. Verona – Sunday February 7, Stadio Bentegodi, Kick-off: 2.00pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

This is one of those fixtures where checking the team news really pays off. Rodrigo De Paul is suspended and that means Udinese are missing their best player by a country mile. Fernando Llorente has arrived, but he’s barely played in six months, whereas the Friulani handed striker Kevin Lasagna to Verona in January and he’s raring to go against his old club.

Best bet for Udinese vs. Verona: Verona to win at 9/4 with 888 Sport
