Serie A tips of the week: Lazio and Milan set for goals galore

Lazio Milan Eurotips

Football Italia’s Susy Campanale takes you through the best Serie A bets of the week…

The lockdown really did have Italian teams wound up tight and now they’ve let loose with a flurry of goals. No league has been as consistently entertaining since the return to action than Serie A, as it’s not just Atalanta and Lazio providing consistent Overs bets, but Sassuolo too, netting three goals in each of their last three games. Lecce, meanwhile, are leaking like a sieve, so there’s only one result in that collision.

There’s a smorgasbord of great fixtures this weekend, from the Turin Derby to Lazio having to do without Ciro Immobile and Felipe Caicedo against Milan, to the head-to-head for fifth place Napoli-Roma. Endlessly amusing Atalanta visit Walter Zenga’s Cagliari, who aren’t exactly short of goals either at the moment, and Udinese-Genoa is a relegation dogfight.

All these are big games, but finding the value in the bets is another matter entirely. Here’s where we have to dig a little deeper.

Scintillating Sassuolo

Sassuolo vs. Lecce – Saturday July 4, Mapei Stadium, Kick-off: 6.30pm

One of the most prolific sides in the division against the worst defence. It’s not rocket science, is it? There are going to be goals, that much is obvious, but this is where finding the value comes into play. Go big or don’t bother, other than as part of an accumulator when you consider it to be a lock.

You can get Sassuolo to win and five or more goals in the match at 3/1 and that’s pretty good for something you’d consider to be a gimme. Lecce concede so many goals not because they are poor defensively – just – but because they love to attack, so don’t think Sassuolo are necessarily going to get all the goals here.

Best bet for Sassuolo vs. Lecce: Sassuolo to win and 5 or more goals at 3/1 on William Hill

Versatile Lazio

Lazio vs. Milan – Saturday July 4, Stadio Olimpico, Kick-off: 8.45pm

Lazio go into this game essentially without any strikers. Ciro Immobile and his natural replacement Felipe Caicedo are both suspended, Bobby Adekanye isn’t fully fit, leaving only Joaquin Correa, who is more of a support than a centre-forward. In theory, that means Lazio ought to be toothless in attack and you’d give the win to Milan, or at least lay the hosts.

Football isn’t about theory, though. If anyone is prepared for this eventuality, it’s Lazio. They used to play with Luis Alberto as a more advanced support for Immobile, so Correa could fit the bill there, his pace and the Spaniard’s through balls taking advantage of a slow Milan back four.

The wheels are already falling off the Rossoneri bus, as the 2-2 draw with SPAL showed Stefano Pioli used the same line-up a few too many times, fatigue set in and the replacements aren’t up to scratch. Now Samu Castillejo is injured and Zlatan Ibrahimovic isn’t fit enough to start yet.

Always goals with Atalanta

Cagliari vs. Atalanta – Sunday July 5, Sardegna Arena, Kick-off: 6.30pm

Make no bones about it, keep riding the Atalanta goals train, especially when they are up against Walter Zenga’s unbalanced Cagliari. The Sardinians don’t score as much as they ought to, but they’ll struggle with La Dea swarming around them. I’m even prepared to go a little conservative on this one and say shun Over 4.5 Goals in favour of Over 3.5 Goals, just in case, mainly because of the number of chances Cagliari tend to waste and the potential heat issue of playing in July a little early. As a side-bet, the tempo should pick up as the game wears on, so more goals in the second half are to be expected.

Best bet for Cagliari vs. Atalanta: Over 3.5 Goals at 13/10 with William Hill
