Serie A tips of the week: Milan Derby Mayhem

Milan and Inter club crests ahead of the derby

Football Italia’s Susy Campanale takes you through the best Serie A bets of the week…

The biggest Derby della Madonnina in a decade is inevitably going to draw all the focus, but that leaves some intriguing options for bets elsewhere in an unusually stretched-out Serie A fixture list.

All the games are kicking off at different times, spread out over four days, as the Champions League and Europa League commitments begin to take effect on already tired teams. Napoli may have caused an upset against Juventus, but they are down to the bare bones personnel-wise and against a rested Atalanta side, so that could get ugly.

There are two rather unexpected relegation tussles on Friday and Sampdoria primed to take advantage of a distracted Lazio. I’d say Cagliari vs. Torino has draw written all over it, but then fear the Sardinians conceding a late goal. Again.

San Siro showstopper

Milan vs. Inter – Sunday February 21, Stadio Meazza, Kick-off: 2.00pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

It’s been 10 years since this fixture was a Scudetto showdown, but finally the two Milan clubs are back on top. Inter leapfrogged their rivals last week and don’t have the Rossoneri’s Europa League commitments, so everything points to a Nerazzurri victory. In the Derby della Madonnina, the favourites rarely find it easy, so Laying Inter might be worth a look. What’s even more likely is an ill-tempered goalfest with the potential for a red card, like the Coppa Italia quarter-final last month.

Best bet for Milan vs. Inter: Over 3.5 Goals at 9/5 with Bet Victor

Super Spezia

Fiorentina vs. Spezia – Friday February 19, Stadio Franchi, Kick-off: 5.30pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

Long-term readers of this column will know my love for Spezia and the way they play under Vincenzo Italiano, and last week’s victory over Milan saw them finally pay off all that promise with a result. They are generally stronger on their travels than at home and Fiorentina without Franck Ribery are toothless, so it’s entirely possible they’ll get over-run. After all, the Serie A newcomers are higher up the standings than the Viola.

Best bet for Fiorentina vs. Spezia: Spezia to win at 3/1 on 888 Sport

Merciless Atalanta

Atalanta vs. Napoli – Sunday February 21, Gewiss Stadium, Kick-off: 5.00pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

These teams have faced off twice already in recent weeks in the Coppa Italia semi-final, a 0-0 draw in Naples and 3-1 Atalanta home victory. Napoli come here after an exhausting Europa League trip to Granada, where they had just 12 outfield players. They rallied to beat Juventus last week against all odds, but lost several more to injury in the process. This is one step too far and Atalanta need to get themselves riled up for Real Madrid. It could get ugly.

Best bet for Atalanta vs. Napoli: Atalanta to win and 3 or More Goals in the Match at 17/10 with William Hill
