Serie A tips of the week: Mouth-watering Milan vs. Atalanta

Milan and Atalanta club crests

Football Italia’s Susy Campanale takes you through the best Serie A bets of the week…

For more than 20 years, Susy Campanale has been at the forefront of Italian football coverage for Football Italia. With a unique level of experience and expertise covering Serie A, Susy casts an expert eye across the latest round of action, exclusively with Eurotips.

We reach the midway point of the season and the title of Winter Champion will be assigned on Saturday. Even if Milan lose and Inter win, they’d be level on points, with goal difference leaning Antonio Conte’s way, but to all intents and purposes it’d be a shared crown. The Rossoneri have by far the tougher test, hosting Atalanta, although La Dea have stuttered to two consecutive stalemates and the COVID crisis is now easing for Stefano Pioli.

There’s possible money to be earned in the rematch between Roma and Spezia, just days after the Giallorossi imploded against the Aquile in the Coppa Italia. Cagliari are in the last chance saloon with Genoa, while Verona could make the most of a demoralised Napoli following the midweek Supercoppa loss to Juventus.

All guns blazing

Milan vs. Atalanta – Saturday January 23, Stadio Meazza, Kick-off: 5.00pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

This is a mouth-watering fixture and the leaders go into it with mixed team news. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is back and scoring, Alessio Romagnoli is suspended. Theo Hernandez, Ante Rebic and Rade Krunic are given the COVID all-clear, but Hakan Calhanoglu is still ruled out. Atalanta, meanwhile, aren’t the fearsome prospect they were only eight days ago, after back-to-back draws with Genoa and Udinese. It does confirm teams with three-man defences can neutralise La Dea, but Milan don’t fit that bill. This should be a blast.

Best bet for Milan vs. Atalanta: Over 3.5 Goals at 29/20 with Bet Victor

Spezia curse prevails

Roma vs. Spezia – Saturday January 23, Stadio Olimpico, Kick-off: 2.00pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

It’s an odd quirk of fate that these teams should meet just days after their Coppa Italia Round of 16 in the same stadium. That went to extra time after a 2-2 draw, then Roma totally imploded with two red cards, losing 4-2. It means Spezia have won both their games against the Giallorossi, but this is their first Serie A encounter. Amid reports of tension between the ranks and coach Paulo Fonseca hanging by a thread, I wouldn’t be entirely against tipping Spezia to win at 15/2. However, let’s play it safe with a Double Chance.

Best bet for Roma vs. Spezia: Double Chance Draw/Spezia at 23/10 on Bet Victor

Napoli slide

Verona vs. Napoli – Sunday January 24, Stadio Bentegodi, Kick-off: 2.00pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

Napoli are a moody team, tending to ride on a wave of enthusiasm or crumbling under the weight of their own neuroses. They beat Fiorentina 6-0, then immediately underperformed with Juventus in the Supercoppa on Wednesday, losing 2-0 after Lorenzo Insigne missed a penalty. They don’t have much strength in depth at the moment, the mood will be dire and Verona are more than capable of taking advantage. Odds of 4/1 are just daft in the circumstances.

Best bet for Verona vs. Napoli: Verona to win at 4/1 with 888 Sport

Serie A Week 19 accumulator

Both teams to score in Roma vs. Spezia

Double Chance Draw/Away in Fiorentina vs. Crotone

Over 2.5 Goals in Juventus vs. Bologna
