Serie A tips of the week: Thrillers for Roma, Milan and Benevento

Roma and Inter club crests

The goals theme continues in Italian football’s top flight and I see no reason to stop backing Overs now, especially with the fixtures at our disposal this weekend.

Roma and Inter go head-to-head for second place and I do find the Giallorossi a tempting prospect to win, although Romelu Lukaku returns and the Nerazzurri rarely get two badly wrong in a row. It will be an all-out battle, though, and should lead to plenty of goals.

The same goes for leaders Milan and a Torino side on the up, as Stefano Pioli once again has to adjust for injuries. Sometimes you get a fixture that feels like a gift to the neutral and Benevento vs. Atalanta is one of them, while I wouldn’t let the Juventus resurgence fool you into thinking they’ll keep a clean sheet with Sassuolo.

Roma-Inter showdown for second

Roma vs. Inter – Sunday January 10, Stadio Olimpico, Kick-off: 11.30am

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

This is going to be a doozy. Roma are quietly gaining momentum, climbing up to third place and thanks to Inter’s defeat at Sampdoria, they could catch the Nerazzurri in second place with a win here. Add in that it’s an early Sunday kick-off and the return of Romelu Lukaku on one side, Leonardo Spinazzola on the other, we have a fascinating clash on our hands. There’s a slight risk of them cancelling each other out, but I expect these sides to go at it hammer and tongs.

Best bet for Roma vs. Inter: Over 3.5 Goals at 7/5 on Bet Victor

Giampaolo’s revenge

Milan vs. Torino – Saturday January 9, Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Kick-off: 7.45pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

Marco Giampaolo was sacked to make way for Stefano Pioli in 2019 and his career never recovered, although he is at least now less likely to get fired by Torino after an upturn in results. On the other hand, Milan are still top of Serie A, even after losing their 27-round unbeaten record to Juventus, and ravaged by injuries. Sandro Tonali returns, but Hakan Calhanoglu is out, so they’ll be completely unbalanced. I see goals, lots of them, especially in the second half.

Best bet for Milan vs. Torino: Draw at 9/5 with Bet Victor

All guns blazing

Benevento vs. Atalanta – Saturday January 9, Stadio Vigorito, Kick-off: 2.00pm

Watch live on Premier Sports/Streaming

January should just be renamed Atalantuary and have done with it, because this is their month. Papu Gomez drama be damned, in two games of 2021 they have six points, eight goals scored and one conceded. Benevento are flying high in mid-table, coming off two consecutive away wins, and their style of football means Pippo Inzaghi’s men will put up a fight.

Best bet for Benevento vs. Atalanta: Over 3.5 Goals at 8/13 with 888 Sport

Serie A Week 17 accumulator

Over 3.5 Goals in Milan vs. Torino

Both teams to score in Roma vs. Inter

Both teams to score in Juventus vs. Sassuolo

Combined odds: 10.45/1 at William Hill
